About This Pub
Ah, The Golden Cock in Darlington – it's one of those classic local pubs that really hits the spot for a laid-back evening with mates. I love how they've got live sports on the telly most days, making it an ideal place to cheer on your team with a cold pint in hand, and the beer garden is just brilliant on a sunny day, especially if you've got your dog in tow. The prices are spot on too, with some cracking deals that won't leave your wallet weeping, and the friendly staff and entertainment like the jukebox or a DJ night add to that warm, welcoming feel. But let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard a few tales of slow service that can drag on even when it's quiet, and some reviews point to the place having a bit of a musty whiff or toilets that could do with a spruce up. Plus, the beer quality isn't always as reliable as you'd hope, so it might not be the first choice if you're after something fancy. Overall, it's a solid spot for a casual get-together, but go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a good time – just keep an eye out for those niggles and plan accordingly.
Pros and Cons

The staff are really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's got a cracking atmosphere, especially when they're showing live sports like football or rugby – perfect for catching the big games with a pint.
-
Reasonable prices mean you can enjoy a few drinks without breaking the bank, and they've got some unbeatable offers on drinks.
-
The beer garden is a lovely spot for a breezy afternoon, with plenty of sheltered seating, and it's even pet-friendly so you can bring your furry mate along.
-
There's a good old-fashioned vibe with things like a jukebox and pool table, plus occasional entertainment like DJs, which makes for a fun night out.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit slow at times, even when it's not too busy, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like for your round.
-
Some folks have mentioned the pub can have a bit of a stale smell, and the toilets aren't always up to scratch, which puts a damper on things.
-
The quality of the draft beers and lagers isn't always spot on, so you might end up disappointed if you're after something top-notch.
-
It's had a few mixed experiences, with some visits feeling a tad underwhelming compared to the hype.

i thought this was a naughty venue but it was just a normal pub with a bloke wearing army clothes asking to buy his pint VERY disappionted
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere
Another one of the old times pubs in Darlington. Responsable prices. Times I've gone in midweek service is slow even though it was quiet. Guess mobile phones at work have a lot to answer for. Saying that this bar is still worth a visit on a weekend when either DJ on or entertainment.
Good old fashioned town centre pub. Reasonable prices for drinks, juke box and pool table.
Pub stinks. Service is poor toilets both male and female are questionable and the draft beer and lagers I've tried are not the quality I would expect. It's changed hands and that could be the reason but I won't be going back any time soon
