About This Pub
Ah, The Owl – what a gem of a pub it is, isn't it? Nestled in the lovely Epping Forest, it's got that timeless feel with its wood panelling and open fires that just make you want to settle in for the afternoon. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely love the welcoming atmosphere; it's super family-friendly with a play area for the little ones and even welcomes dogs, so it's brilliant for a day out walking in the countryside. The drinks selection is top-notch too – think a great range of cask ales and craft beers that go down a treat, and the food doesn't disappoint, with fresh, locally sourced dishes and those classic Sunday roasts that everyone raves about. It's clear from the reviews that the staff are generally helpful and the grub comes out quickly, making it a solid spot for a bite after exploring. On the flip side, though, some have mentioned that prices can be a bit on the high side, like for a pie that feels pricey for a casual meal, and there have been a few grumbles about the odd staff member being a touch abrupt, which might leave you wishing for a warmer chat. All in all, it's a fantastic choice if you're after a relaxed pint in a historic setting, but do keep an eye on your budget and maybe book if you're in a larger group – that way, you can make the most of what this place has to offer without any hitches.

-
Its location in the heart of Epping Forest makes it an ideal pit stop after a walk, with plenty of outdoor seating and a real community vibe.
Cons
-
Some menu items, like the chicken and mushroom pie at £17, can feel a bit steep for what you get, which might put off those watching their wallet.
-
Service can occasionally come across as abrupt, especially from certain staff members, which takes a little shine off an otherwise friendly experience.
-
It does get busy, so if you're heading out with a group, it's wise to book ahead to avoid disappointment, particularly on weekends.

It's a lot bigger than I was expecting! Plenty of seating in and out. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food came in good time and was very tasty.
There's a playground for the kids whilst you wait.
Lots of outside seating.
Possibly a good idea to book if there's a few of you, especially at busier times.
Would definitely recommend.
Food was lovely, I had the chicken and mushroom pie. But at £17 it's just a tad steep in my opinion. Great pie tho. The bar staff were quite happy but I think it was the manager that served me and she just comes across a bit abrupt.
Perfect afternoon walk and a couple of decent country ales. It’s been several years but a welcoming revisit to this historic pub. The landlord has clearly made some changes in recent years which are very positive 👏
We stopped here for a quick break on our dog walk through the forest. It's a charming country-style pub with a local feel, not like the usual chain pubs. There’s plenty of outdoor space, a kids' play area, and it’s dog-friendly, which made our Sunday visit feel relaxed.
There was a BBQ going on, so we tried the brisket, wings, Cajun fries, and hot links. The food was tasty and of good quality for a pub, and around £30 for two made it even better. They have a good selection of beers; we chose the Hertfordshire IPA, which was less than £10 for two pints – very reasonable. The bartender, who might have been the owner, was friendly and even let me sample a different pint, which is always a nice touch and somewhat unusual for pubs outside London. The dogs loved their free treats too!
All in all, we can't fault this easy-going pub if you’re out for a walk in the area or looking for a lovely pub garden on a sunny day.
Beautiful British pub, surrounded by the park, with seats outdoors and also playground for kids. Inside in very spacious and it’s kept in good and clean condition. The food is so good and the service is amazing and fast! Lou our waiter has been amazing, kind, friendly, attentive and professional! Thank you! Highly recommend it and I’d love to come back in the summer.
