About This Pub

Ah, The Orange Tree – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Chelmsford. From what I've gathered, folks absolutely rave about the beers; there's a brilliant range of real ales that keep you coming back for more, and it's clear that's where they shine. The staff are dead welcoming too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that cosy feel. And if you're lucky enough to catch it on a nice day, the pub garden is a treat – plenty of covered spots so you can enjoy a pint without worrying about the weather. On the downside, the food's tasty when you can get it, but it does come at a bit of a premium, and it's not always on the menu, mostly saved for group do's or during big events like cricket matches. Still, if you're after a relaxed spot for a good drink and some decent company, it's well worth popping in – just plan ahead if you're hoping for a bite to eat. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out with mates, balancing the highs and lows nicely.

Food perhaps a bit pricey but was tasty and hot so worth it. Good selection of ales too.

Lovely friendly pub with an excellent range of real ales. I had the Mauldens Black Adder which was very good. We had a very tasty panini but note that there was a sign in the pub saying they now only serve food for special group bookings and on days one and two of county cricket matches. We happened to be at the cricket on day two so were quite lucky.

Great little cricket pub off the main town area in Chelmsford. Good selection of different drinks, staff were friendly and place was well kept and clean.

Cracking pub with good range of ales and beers. Now has a decent "pub garden" at the rear with large covered areas for those who prefer the fresh air. Friendly staff and crowd, can get busy when Essex CC play a T20 match. Conversely it's great if you fancy a beer after a T20 match!
