About This Pub

Ah, The Cricketers Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? Tucked away on Moulsham Street, it's got this beating heart of the community vibe that's hard to beat. I have to say, the drinks are a real highlight; whether you're after a crisp cider or a nice glass of wine, they've got a brilliant range that keeps things interesting without being overwhelming. The beer garden out the back is another winner – it's clean and inviting, perfect for whiling away a summer evening or enjoying a bite with friends. And speaking of food, their Sunday roasts are spot on; the portions are generous, and little touches like that cauliflower cheese side really elevate it from the ordinary. The staff are dead friendly too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which makes you feel right at home. On the flip side, it's a shame the kitchen isn't open all the time, so if you're fancying a meal, you'll need to time it right or settle for bar snacks. Plus, while they've got fun events lined up like wreath making or jazz nights, they don't happen every day, so it might not suit if you're after constant excitement. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a catch-up – not without its quirks, but that's what gives it charm. If you're in Chelmsford, I'd definitely pop in and see what all the fuss is about; you might just find your new favourite spot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of drinks is absolutely brilliant – from cold beers and ciders to a great wine list, it's perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a cheeky tipple after work.
  • The beer garden is a real gem; it's clean, spacious, and ideal for a sunny afternoon pint or even a relaxed evening out.
  • Service is top-notch and really friendly; the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which adds to that warm, community feel.
  • They've got some cracking food options, like their Sunday roasts with generous portions and standout sides – it's hearty and hits the spot.
  • It's dog-friendly and has a function room for hire, making it a fantastic spot for get-togethers or special occasions without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Food availability can be a bit limited, as the kitchen's only open at specific times, so you might miss out if you're popping in outside those hours.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in places, which could catch you out if you're planning a late-night visit.
  • While the events like Beaujolais Day sound fun, they might not happen every week, so it's worth keeping an eye on their socials to avoid disappointment.

Great local pub. Brilliant selection of drinks and lovely clean garden out the back. Brilliant service and very friendly. Highly recommend missing gate the local Essex wine.

Decided to try their Sunday Roasts at the weekend. Had the pork, which was delicious. The portion size is really good and the cauliflower cheese was up there with one of the best. The cauliflower cheese comes as a side and although I didn't need it, as there was amble veg included in price, I'm glad I did. Really nice pub with a lovely atmosphere. Dog & child friendly too!

Great pub as it has a function room for hire for special occasions. You can hire it for free if you are having a large number of people (think it's 30 plus but best to check with the owner). Large selection of ales, wine's etc. They also serve nice bar food/snacks. Friendly staff. Good place to pop in for a couple of pints.
