About This Pub
Ah, The Optimist Tavern—it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a casual catch-up or a hearty meal, isn't it? From what I've gathered, the food is a standout with plenty of options to suit all sorts, whether you're after a classic Sunday roast or something lighter from the vegetarian menu. I love how they've got that spacious beer garden for when the weather's playing nice, and the staff seem to go out of their way to make you feel welcome, especially with that efficient app ordering. It's in a great location too, just off the M25, so it's dead easy to nip in after exploring the area. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect—I've heard a few folks mention that the food can arrive just warm rather than piping hot, and there have been issues with running out of popular items or having to rush through a meal due to those two-hour table limits. Plus, some regulars have noticed the burgers aren't up to their usual standard lately, which might put a dampener on things if that's your thing. Overall, though, with a solid 4.2 rating, it's worth a visit for a balanced pub experience—go for the good vibes and keep an eye on the specials to make the most of it!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is generally delicious with a great variety of options, including fixed price menus, kids' choices, and specials that cater to different tastes and dietary needs.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a spacious beer garden that's perfect for enjoying a pint on a sunny day or gathering with mates.
-
Service is efficient, especially when using the app for ordering, and the staff are friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home.
-
It's in a handy spot near the M25 and local attractions, with plenty of parking, so it's easy to pop in after a day out.
-
Prices are decent and offer good value, with promotions that make it a budget-friendly choice for a mid-week meal or Sunday roast.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be a bit basic or not as hot as you'd hope, and there have been times when they've run out of certain items, which is a bit disappointing.
-
Table slots are limited to just two hours, and waits for food can stretch to 45 minutes or more, which might not suit everyone in a hurry.
-
The quality of some favourites, like the burgers, has dipped recently—they're drier and not quite the same as before, which is a shame if that's your go-to.
-
Drinks selection might not always be fully stocked, so you could miss out on that specific pint you're after.

Not the best but I've also been to worse the food was very basic and just warm when it arrived.
They were running out of lots of food and some drink items. We were only given a 2hr slot for our table and then told food would be 45mins to an hour so not great. The ice cream sundae had more cream in it than ice cream so all in all a little disappointing. But the cookie dessert was very nice. Gave it 3 stars as it was a very average pub and food was okay but not terrible.
We pop in here for Friday dinner usually. Always lucky to find a free table then order using the app. All works very efficiently. While it does appear busy with plenty of people outside, drinks and food come along in a reasonable time. There's plenty of space available in the two car parks. Staff are friendly and efficient as well. All very easy going.
Last year we used to enjoy the burgers here, now in the past few months the quality of the burgers declined significantly, more dry, the bun is different, we used to get burger sauce on the side but not anymore…..we like to come here to have a few pints and a burger…shame we might have to look elsewhere
Nearly perfect local pub to visit. Food is delicious and well cooked, portions are nice, many combos, many options, different combos for different days and times of the day. Often nice promos. Food is cooked with enough veggies and good variety of grilled stuff. And most importantly, prices are decent. Easily you can spend 20£ top and get everything you want.
