About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Old Roebuck – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Altrincham. From what I've gathered, the food really steals the show; people rave about the hearty meals, like those amazing steaks and burgers that leave you feeling well satisfied, or even their Christmas lunches that bring a bit of festive magic. The atmosphere is spot on too, with a lovely beer garden for soaking up the sun and cosy log fires that make winter visits feel extra inviting. And it's great that they welcome dogs in the bar area, making it easy to pop in with your furry friend without any fuss. The staff sound like absolute stars, always on hand with a smile and helpful advice, which really adds to that homely feel. On the flip side, if you're someone who prefers a more contemporary vibe, it might come across as a bit old-school, and with prices on the moderate side, it could nibble at your wallet for a full evening. Still, for anyone after a solid, traditional pub experience with good grub and a dash of community spirit, I'd say it's well worth a visit – you might just find yourself returning for more!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty classics like top-notch steaks, burgers, and proper Christmas dinners that feel just like home.
  • It's a welcoming spot with a traditional vibe, complete with a cosy beer garden for sunny days and crackling log fires for those chilly evenings.
  • Friendly staff who go the extra mile, making everyone feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or a full meal.
  • Dog-friendly setup in the bar area, with water bowls and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect if you're out with your four-legged mate.
  • Fun events like quiz nights every Tuesday, adding a bit of excitement and a chance to gather with friends for some friendly competition.
Cons
  • It might feel a tad traditional for those after something more modern or trendy, as it's all about that classic pub charm.
  • With moderate prices, a night out could add up if you're tucking into a full meal and drinks, which might not suit everyone's budget.
  • Opening from midday means it's not ideal for early risers looking for a breakfast spot or a quick morning coffee.

Booked for Christmas lunch; a group of fifteen. Good communication from the staff, especially as we had a few orders to change last minute. Fitted us all into one room no problem, crackers, party hats, whole nine yards. The food was ‘proper’ Christmas grub, like you’d get at home. Everything you would conceivably have on a Christmas dinner was on there, even a bit of roasted sweet potato, which was a nice extra. All cooked well and all received well by everyone in the party, it was delicious. Also found out on finishing up that the chef had had his knee replaced a week before, so can’t have been easy to do all that and do it so well. Would definitely recommend for some good honest home cooked food, likely to book again for this year.

We went into the roebuck for tea last night. We had a steak with chips mushrooms oinion rings and salad. I have to say it was by far the best steak I've ever had my husband had the burger and again it was fabulous Well done to Ian who cooked it all it really was amazing

A very decent traditional pub of the type which are becoming rarer sadly these days. I'd definitely be a regular there if I didn't happen to live so far away. I probably need to move.

Classic "old timey" British bar. Excellent food. Helpful staff with food terms and translation.

Fantastic pub. We came to work in the area for 2 weeks and The Roebuck became our local. Great food, service and a great beer garden. And a special shout out to Mike who looked after us like we were old friends. Highly recommended 😁
