About This Pub

Ah, The Old Plough – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub in Sale, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food stands out as a real winner; folks are raving about the hearty dishes like tender gammon and flavoursome fries, all served up with that homely touch. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, always up for recommending a ale or sorting out a taster, which adds to the friendly feel. It's a fantastic place for a relaxed afternoon or an evening watching the footie with your lot. But, let's be straight, it has its downsides – on a Saturday night, it can turn into a right scrum with queues at the bar and a racket that might make it hard to hear yourself think. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear most people leave with a smile, so if you're up for a lively spot with good grub, it's worth a visit, just maybe avoid the peak hours if you fancy a more chilled-out vibe.

Cons
-

It can get incredibly busy, particularly on evenings, which makes finding a seat a real challenge and turns the place into a bit of a squeeze.

-

The noise level ramps up when it's packed, so if you're after a quiet chat, it might feel a tad overwhelming.

Service can slow down with only a couple of staff on hand during peak times, leading to waits that might put a dampener on things.

We popped into the plough after our meal at a local restaurant one Saturday evening.
It was absolutely rammed already by 730pm.
It was very noisy, and very few seats downstairs, a bit of a pain to get served due to only having 2 servers.
Atmosphere was happy enough inside, lots of locals who are always the noisiest.
Didn't sample any food.
Drinks were fine, nothing to shout about positively. The first pint wasn't particularly cold and had way too much head, not worth the que again to moan! Quite pricey.
Moved onto the buck not long after.
Me and my children were visiting my dad and he recommended coming here to watch Manchester United. We decided to stay for food and it was lovely. Steak was amazing, sea bass was lovely and my son enjoyed his burger. The pudding was delightful. The only reason I didn’t give 5 star was because we missed out on the Sunday roast. We’ll be back soon.
Just stopped off for lunch. The pub was quite quiet. Possibly due to the time and possibly due to the icy conditions outside. Food was tasty. Served quickly and with a smile. They were more than happy to pull a taster off to sample one of their hand pulled ales. There were 4 to choose from. The pub temperature was a bit cool. Would go back in to eat when we are back in the area.
Four of us had a lovely afternoon of food and a lot of drinks and laughs. The food is back to how it used to be a few years ago. Great portions and flavoursome. Two had the gammon, huge and tender. One had scampi, nice and juicy. I had three for £14.95, prawns, chicken and pulled pork topped fries, perfect. Staff excellent especially Sophie! We will be back!
The food is surprisingly delicious, and we all love the atmosphere! Friendly staff and great service. We will definitely be back again.
It’s a pity that England didn’t win the match today, what a shame… 🔥
