About This Pub
Ah, The Old King's Highway – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper hidden gem in Aberdeen, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant old-school vibe that makes you feel right at home, like you're chatting away in a piece of history. The staff really shine through; they're so approachable and eager to help, which always makes for a top-notch evening. Plus, if you're planning a get-together, the function room is a real winner for parties – it's spacious and adds a fun element to special occasions. On the flip side, it can be a bit on the quiet side sometimes, which is lovely if you're after some peace, but might not hit the spot if you fancy a buzzing atmosphere. And watch out for the function room on warmer days; without any air con, it can get uncomfortably hot, and the jukebox tunes are a bit stuck in the past, so you might end up missing out on the latest hits. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual night out or a wee celebration, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – the good bits definitely outweigh the niggles for me!
Pros and Cons

-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make your visit special.
-
It's got a fantastic function room that's ideal for celebrations like birthdays or parties, with plenty of space to enjoy yourself.

You can savour a great pint or a fine whisky here, which adds to the authentic pub experience.
Cons
-
It can get a bit too quiet at times, which might leave you hoping for a livelier crowd to join in the fun.
-
The function room doesn't have air conditioning, so it can feel quite stuffy and warm on busier nights.
-
The jukebox music selection is a tad outdated, which might not appeal if you're after something more current.

Very quiet when we were in there.. Hope things up for the bar.
Had my double celebration in function room the only problem there was no air con very hot. Staff are lovely the whole team went above and beyond for me. Coleman entertainment services are brilliant for dj set
It’s just cool sitting in the oldest bar in Aberdeen and enjoys a good whisky.
Lovely atmosphere, decor class like going back in time, nice pint, staff very friendly. The only reason I didn't give it a five star was the music on the Duke box it was as old as the bar.
It's a nice city centre pub, down the stairs from Union Street on The Green. It's normally pretty lively there. There's a really good function room upstairs with a bar which is great for birthday parties. There was a male stripper there last night for a hen party who were using the function room - always a good laugh!
