About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Old Fire Station – it's this unpretentious little bar tucked away in Ashton-under-Lyne that's got a lot going for it if you're after something straightforward and easy on the wallet. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the prices are spot on; you can grab a pint or even something from the hand pump without it costing an arm and a leg, which is always a win in my book. Plus, being open round the clock means it's perfect for those late-night shifts or early mornings when you fancy a quiet spot to unwind. The atmosphere sounds genuinely warm, with folks raving about the customer service and the odd bit of entertainment like live music or sports on the telly, making it a nice place to relax and chat. On the other hand, it's not all smooth sailing – a couple of people mentioned the bar can get backed up because there aren't enough staff, leading to frustrating waits that might send you elsewhere for a quicker round. And it does seem to cater more to daytime crowds, so if you're hoping for a buzzing evening scene, it might fall a bit flat. All in all, it's a solid choice for a no-fuss drink with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe plan for a bit of patience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are incredibly affordable, making it a brilliant spot for a cheeky pint without breaking the bank.
  • It's open 24/7, which is a real boon for night workers or anyone fancying a drink at odd hours.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming with friendly service that leaves you feeling right at home.
  • They've got a good selection of beers and entertainment like sports and music to keep things lively.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times due to not enough staff behind the bar, which might put a dampener on your visit.
  • It feels more like a spot for daytime drinkers, so it might not buzz as much in the evenings if you're after a lively night out.
