About This Pub

Ah, The Old Crown – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a welcoming haven, doesn't it? From what I've gathered, the staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and ready to help, which really sets the tone for a great visit. The food stands out too; imagine tucking into a massive plate of steak and Guinness pie or a carvery that's so generous you'll need to loosen your belt – it's all homemade and packed with flavour, making it ideal for anyone after a proper meal. They've got a nice outdoor area for sunnier days, and it's well set up for events with things like projectors and free parking, which is handy if you're planning something special. On the flip side, it does get buzzing, especially during peak times, so popping in without a booking might leave you hanging about, and while the prices are fair for what you get, it could add up if you're out with a big group. All in all, it's a solid spot for good times and tasty bites, and I'd say it's worth a try if you're in the area – just go with an appetite and perhaps plan ahead!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel right at home.
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty portions of delicious pub grub like steak and Guinness pie or a cracking carvery, all prepared with real care.
  • It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of space inside, a great outdoor beer garden, and even facilities for events or room hire.
  • They cater well to different needs, like gluten-free options, making it a thoughtful choice for everyone.
  • Live sports and Wi-Fi add to the vibe, perfect for catching a match or just unwinding with mates.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy at times, especially for popular meals, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting around.
  • While the prices are reasonable for the quality and portions, they might feel a tad steep if you're planning a larger gathering or treating the whole family.

Stopped off while on a narrowboat holiday. A short walk from the canal but well worth the trouble. Friendly staff , nothing too much trouble, with a lovely atmosphere. The menu was excellent and the food was delicious. Good helpings , so go hungry!! Would definitely recommend and would return.

Hi ! I was recently here with my two mates for some food, and boy, was I pleasantly surprised. I had a steak and guiness pie, and It was the best pie I have ever had ! Gravy delicious, meat nicely cooked and falling apart, nice pie crust on the top, just 10 out of 10 dish ^^ . Good portion as well if you are hungry. Staff was lovely and helpful, the atmosphere was great. They have few craft beers there, which is a big plus for me. Massive beer garden with a stage for music performance! Definitely coming back there at some point :D. All the best!

Young but friendly staff, service was wonderful, fast and helpful. Food was delicious, not cheap but reasonable priced considering the portion sizes and quality of food. Absolutely delectable. Plenty of tables inside, nice atmosphere large bar. Outside covered area, stable wooden/metal benches, entertainment areas with heat lamps, can vape but not smoke under cover. Grass garden with loads more wooden tables, umbrellas and ashtrays. Some bigger wooden tables around front of building. Quiz nights on Tuesday, some nights have events/entertainment booked, areas to rent out for events. Definitely plan on another trip.

My biggest advice: come with an empty stomach and make sure you book! The carvery here was insane (in a good way XD). It was busy and we overheard the host say that it was fully booked all day. You get a choice between gammon, pork, beef and turkey. The veg is self serve. The price is really affordable and all the staff are incredibly friendly - the atmosphere is really joyful. Shout out Dan who gave us a friendly and warm welcome - he said we will be back...I don't doubt him now.

Dining out can be challenging when needing gluten free options for Coeliac’s disease. We rang up and the host went to speak directly to the chef to ensure that we could be safely accommodated for. We felt reassured from the conversation on the phone and the fact they had a specific gluten free menu. Craving burgers we were not disappointed. Gluten free bun, gluten free burger and delicious chips (they have a separate chip frier which means we could have all the different types of chips). Excellent service. Top quality food. 100% would recommend and cannot wait to be back. Thank you
