About This Pub
Ah, The Old Bank in York – what a gem it is for a good old pub experience! From the moment you step in, you're greeted with that warm, inviting atmosphere that's just perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the city. I love how the staff really make you feel at home; they're chatty and attentive, always ready with a smile and a spot-on drink suggestion, which adds such a personal touch to your visit. The drinks are spot on too – think refreshing pints of real ale or creative cocktails that keep things exciting, paired with solid pub grub that's both affordable and satisfying. Plus, with all the live sports and events like quizzes, it's brilliant for gathering mates or even sneaking in a game of pool. The beer garden is a lovely surprise, tucked away for those nicer days when you fancy a bit of fresh air. On the flip side, it does get heaving at times, especially in such a bustling spot, so you might find yourself jostling for space or waiting a tick for service during peak hours. And if you're with the little ones, do keep an eye on the entry rules, as they vary to ensure everyone's safety. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable night out – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself; you'll likely leave with a smile and maybe even a new favourite haunt!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and go the extra mile, like Jess who made our quiz night unforgettable with her top-notch recommendations and friendly chat.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from well-kept real ales to fun cocktails, and the food hits the spot with tasty options like kebab baguettes and a full English for under a tenner.
-
It's a proper welcoming spot with a great vibe, whether you're popping in for a quiet pint, catching live sport on the HD screens, or enjoying the hidden beer garden on a sunny day.
-
Family and dog-friendly policies make it inclusive, as long as you're mindful of the times for younger ones, and there are plenty of accessible features like wheelchair access and a function area.
Cons
-
It can get pretty packed, especially in the heart of York, which might make it a bit overwhelming during busy periods or high-profile events.
-
There are some restrictions for under-18s, particularly on weekends or during big matches, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a family outing.

Absolutely incredible night. The star wars quiz was fabulous and Jess behind the bar was absolutely lovely in every way possible. If anyone deserved a raise in a bar it would be her. Lovely to everyone I met that night, and recommended some incredible drinks including the banana sambuca. Would rate 6/5 if I could.
This was a lovely bar for drinking, with a neat interior across its well patterned walls! The lighting and flags are really nice, counter is stylish in its layout. I had a pint of Asahi, sitting comfortably at a smooth table and pool was fun here too very accessible!
Stumbled across this pub during a day visit to York, we decided to have a bit of lunch, the food and service was excellent, highly recommend the kebab baguettes for lunch, they were delicious
A great vibe in the centre of York, whether you choose to visit for a steady few drinks with your other half or you’re calling in for a night out with the lads. A great selection of beverages and these are well kept too! Thumbs up from me 👍🏻
Popped in with Madge and Booth for a morning refresher. A large open bar serving three real ales. Went for Rudgate Valkyrie 5% American Pale Ale. Relaxing mood on a quiet Friday morning but like all York bars can get very busy. Already eaten but a full English is £8.99. Downstairs is another large room and bar ( toilets here) and a large hidden beer garden.
