About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about Museum Street Tavern – it's this charming little pub right in the heart of York that really knows how to make you feel at home. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are an absolute delight; they're quick with a smile, remember the little things like sorting a drink for your furry friend, and even take time to chat about the menu or any events on. The food and drinks are where it shines too – imagine tucking into flavour-packed steak tacos or those light, crispy haddock goujons with rosemary chips that folks rave about, all washed down with a stellar espresso martini. It's got that warm, inviting atmosphere with great music playing, making it ideal for a casual get-together or even a special birthday bash, where the team bends over backwards to make it memorable. But, and I say this as a mate would, it's not all perfect; a few have mentioned the prices creeping up, especially on soft drinks or a Sunday lunch that didn't quite deliver with skimpy veg and gravy overload, leaving some feeling a tad short-changed. Still, with such high praise overall, I'd say it's worth popping in for the good times, just keep an eye on your wallet and maybe skip the roast if you're after something foolproof.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The service here is absolutely top-notch – staff are super friendly and go the extra mile, like getting a drink for your dog or chatting about what's on offer.
-
They've got some cracking food and drinks; think delicious steak tacos, crispy haddock goujons, and the best espresso martinis that'll make your evening.
-
It's a lovely, cosy spot with a great vibe and excellent music, perfect for a relaxed date night or catching up with mates.
-
The atmosphere is welcoming, and they've got thoughtful touches like student and hospitality discounts, which really add to the experience.
Cons
-
Prices can feel a bit steep, especially for soft drinks and Sunday lunches, which might leave you wondering if it's worth it.
-
Some meals, like the Sunday roast, have had mixed feedback – not enough veg and a bit too much gravy, so it might not hit the mark every time.
-
While most reviews are glowing, there are occasional disappointments with portion sizes or overall value, so it's worth keeping expectations in check.

AMAZING service from the bar lady and the best espresso martini that my Wife's had 👍
The bar lady (sorry, we didn't get her name) even got a drink for our Dog 👍
Lovely pub & excellent music. Thanks again for making our day out date day even more memorable 👍
Came in for quick food as the menu looked so good for lite bites and very reasonable prices. I can’t rate the food highly enough! Ordered the steak tacos! Which melted with so many flavours! The haddock goujons and batter was so crisp and light (my favourite!)
Plus the rosemary and salt chips.. I got flashbacks of when my grandma cooked me homemade chips! Can’t rate the chips enough!! I know it’s only chips but you definitely need to try these! Staff who served us was Tom and Bob! Friendliest guys ever! They really took pride in their service! If you can try this place out I recommend it! Hasn’t got big plates(yet) but think they should if their light bites are anything to go by!
We sat in the cosy room to the right as you enter the venue and on an evening it felt very ambient and a bit of rustic French vibes with the lights and pictures. Perfect place to go. Plus they also do live musicians and music which I will need to try as I’m already a fan of this place after being here once! Coming back next week!
Just wanted to say amazing service and vibe. The bartender working was absolutely lovely and really made our trip in today! Took time to speak to us and about what the pub offered and had going on. We saw it prior under the old owners and the direction it has taken (student and hospo discount, music, food coming soon) is brilliant. Warm and inviting
We’ve popped into Museum Street Tavern a few times for evening drinks, the service has always been so friendly and it’s such a lovely pub with a cosy atmosphere.
Because of this, I decided to book here for my birthday meal. The communication from the team was amazing, and they ensured there would be vegan options for my brother. From start to finish, the service was impeccable- everyone was so attentive and lovely. The food was delicious and the portions were good sizes. I don’t know why this place isn’t busier!! Definitely my favourite pub in York. Thank you to the whole team, we’ll definitely be back in the future😊
Popped in on spec for a sunday lunch. Found it to be overpriced and neither of us impressed with the plate served to us. Not enough veg on the plate and both meals swimming in gravy. Soft drinks were also overpriced although service was polite. Disappointing I'm afraid.
