About This Pub
You know, when you wander into the House of Trembling Madness on Lendal, it's like being transported back in time to this cosy Georgian mansion that's full of character and a bit of whimsy – think eccentric art and a haunted history that adds to the fun. The drinks are where it really shines; they've got this massive array of beers, from local favourites to surprises from afar, and the wines and spirits are just as inviting, making it a brilliant spot for a catch-up with mates. The food doesn't disappoint either, with those hearty pies and burgers that feel like a proper Yorkshire hug, especially after a day of sightseeing. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – you might find yourself waiting a while for your meal, so it's best to go with a relaxed mindset rather than expecting lightning-fast service. Overall, with such glowing feedback from folks who've raved about the atmosphere and selections, it's well worth a visit if you're after a memorable pint or bite in York, just keep an eye on the clock for those early closes.

An absolutely fantastic time in a place that feels like an oversized Victorian home, filled with wonderfully weird decorations, and a fabulous selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. Highly recommend for your visit to York, even for the name alone. I haven't had food here but I can attest that the kitchen smells spectacular.
Good pub overall, good pies, chicken or beef, both really good. It took one hour since we ordered but….you know…keep calm and carry on…nice, cozy, big pub, very good option.
ordered a stew with bread, burger with fries and salad - both were good. Lots of seatings. washrooms are on the top floor.
Wonderful bar with a huge selection of cask and keg beer. The decor is fabulous too. An eclectic mix of renaissance and religious art gives the place a quirky atmosphere. Love it for a few beers.
Art meets exquisite beverages in the center of York. Beer aficionados will have a hard time deciding on the perfect drink. That's why you may need to go twice and do a tasting of the local and foreign offerings. Rooms are just fantastic with the perfect atmosphere for a celebration or a break after work.
