About This Pub
Ah, The Newhouse Beefeater – it's one of those places that feels like a reliable old mate in Motherwell, with its warm vibes and staff who are always up for a chat and quick to sort you out. I love how they've got those lunchtime steals, like eight mains for under a fiver each, making it dead easy to grab something tasty without breaking the bank, and their breakfasts are spot on for a proper Scottish start to the day. It's a great little nook for meeting up with pals or even hosting a casual work do, all in a clean and comfy setting. But, let's be straight, it's not all sunshine; there are times when the food doesn't quite live up to the hype, with a few folks mentioning raw bits or meals that just don't hit the spot, and sadly, some have had a rough go with food poisoning afterwards. Still, on the whole, it's a solid choice if you're in the area – just keep an eye on what you're ordering and maybe go for the safer options to avoid any surprises. All in all, it's worth swinging by for the good bits, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and efficient, making you feel welcome right from the start.
-
They've got some cracking deals, like the daytime lunch offer with mains under £8 – perfect for a budget-friendly bite.
-
The atmosphere is clean and pleasant, ideal for catching up with friends, family, or even sorting out business over a meal.
-
Breakfasts come highly recommended; they're hot, fresh, and just the ticket to start your day.
Cons
-
Food quality can be a bit inconsistent, with some reports of undercooked dishes or bland flavours that leave you wanting more.
-
There have been a few nasty surprises, like instances of food poisoning, which is a real downer for what should be a relaxed outing.
-
Service can drag on at times, with long waits that might make you wish you'd popped in elsewhere.
-
Not every visit hits the mark, as some meals turn out overcooked or lacking in effort, which dampens the overall experience.

I have always enjoyed the food served here BUT today I was so disappointed. Last year I had 2 mixed grills which both were fabulous, however, today what a complete disaster. I again ordered the mixed grill and opted for the sirloin steak as part of the meal. Now you can understand that a sirloin is expensive so its a treat to have one when you are out.
When my meal arrived, I took one look at the sirloin and was angry - half of it was full of fat and what looked like gristle. I could not believe that the kitchen chose to give me what was the worse looking sirloin ever. This has now put me off ever eating a dinner at the Newhouse again. I complained to the woman who was serving us and all she did was to say " I will mention to the kitchen" about the steak - there was not even an offer of money off our meal. Well Newhouse, if that is your attitude to customers then you may have lost our custom for good.
Friendly staff and very proficient with their table service. Food is really good and a good menu. Clean and pleasant place to meet with family and friends, or even corporate events.
Always a pleasure to visit for business.thebevening staff are very prompt to seat you and take your order but also give you more time if needed. The staff are happy and smiling never had a bad reception. The food is always perfect never had a bad one . The breakfast is second to none moist hot and delicious. The food at this pub is one of the best in the UK in my opinion for quality . Been coming here for 4 years. Looking forward to the next visit to see Jen in the morning for breakfast cheers.
We went here on Saturday. My own meal was chicken. It was raw and grizzly so I could only eat the chips. Fast forward a few days later and most of my family have food poisoning. Do not recommend.
3 hours in here for a 3 course dinner, was nearly booking a room if I was any longer, some of the staff looked as tho they didn't want to be there. Prawn cocktail had no sauce & the prawns were hard, said crispy battered fish, was soft and bland, burger meal was over cooked. Onion rings were well over done. Now don't mind paying for good food but over £150 for 4 people and not one person had a good meal, can certainly say we will not be back in this establishment. 😡
