About This Pub
You know, I've been having a good old look at Hartys Guest House, and it's got that mix of charm and cheek that you don't always find in these spots. On the plus side, the grub sounds fantastic – people are raving about the tasty meals and those fab desserts, and at prices that won't leave you skint, it's easy to see why folks travel from places like Glasgow just to eat there. The staff get a big thumbs up too, coming across as genuinely helpful and making you feel right at home. But, and it's a big but, there are a few things that might put you off; I've heard tales of food poisoning that really sour the experience, and service can be hit or miss with long waits or feeling a bit hurried, especially if you're in a larger group. Plus, from what I've gathered, the place might have closed down or even been knocked down, so it's probably wise to double-check before making plans. All in all, if you're after a solid meal with mates, it could be a winner, but go in with your eyes open to avoid any disappointments.
Pros and Cons

The food here is absolutely spot on – plenty of rave reviews about the amazing meals and desserts like cheesecakes and caramel shortbread, making it a real treat for a meal out.
-
Prices are brilliant value, with deals like two courses for just £11.99, so you can enjoy a proper feed without breaking the bank.
-
Staff come across as really friendly and helpful, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and personal.
Cons
-
There have been some worrying reports of food poisoning, which puts a dampener on things and makes you think twice about visiting.
-
Service can be a bit inconsistent – some folks have mentioned long waits and feeling rushed, especially when the place gets busy.
-
It seems the venue might not even be around anymore, with one recent review saying it's been knocked down, which is a right shame if you're planning a trip.

Great food and pleasant friendly staff. Unfortunately I posted this review prematurely. The day after our visit two of my party came down with food poisoning. Contact with the establishment resulted in denial (common practice) and laughter. Will never visit this establishment again.
Love this place. Food is amazing and great prices. The deserts are fab and I would recommend the cheesecakes and caramel shortcake. Staff are very friendly and super helpful. We travel through from Glasgow to eat here.
Food was lovely, service terrible. Serving staff were run off feet, not because the restaurant was busy, but there didn't appear to be enough staff. Would have appreciated an apology from serving staff for the long wait at every stage from the drinks order to service of mains. A shame really as communication with customers is key to keeping then happy.
Had a family lunch here a few weeks back.
Food was on this occasion fairly average and staff were less than attentive. I feel they missed a trick as we were a party of 7 and would have ordered more drinks if we had been asked. Felt a bit rushed too, but we understand it's a busy place.
Otherwise this eatery was nicely decorated and clean, with good well kept facilities.
My in-laws have eaten here several times before and said the food is unusually much better.
