About This Pub

Ah, The Nailers Arms – it's one of those pubs that really warms your cockles, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food is a standout; folks rave about the carvery and steaks that are cooked just right and won't break the bank. The staff are proper friendly, making every visit feel like catching up with mates, and it's got this solid 4.6 rating that shows it's a favourite for many. But, let's be real, it's not all roses – you might end up twiddling your thumbs with long waits for your grub, or find that something like the carvery isn't on offer, which can be a letdown. Plus, squeezing into a tight table spot isn't ideal, and remembering to book in advance is a must if you don't want to miss out. Overall, it's a gem worth trying, especially if you're after a hearty meal in a lively spot, but keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother trip.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious carveries and tender steaks that leave you wanting more, with great value like a 16oz rump for just £19.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, with prompt service that keeps things running smoothly.
  • It's got a solid reputation with a 4.6 rating from loads of folks, and loyal regulars swear by it after years of great experiences.
  • Plenty of options on the menu, and it's open every day, making it easy to pop in for a meal or a drink.
Cons
  • Wait times can be a bit of a drag, like when starters and mains don't come out as quickly as you'd hope, turning a relaxed meal into a wait.
  • Sometimes things aren't available, such as the carvery vanishing without notice, which can throw off your plans.
  • Tables might feel a tad squished, especially if you're tucked into a corner, making for an uncomfortable sit.
  • You'll need to book ahead to snag a spot, which is a pain if you're spontaneous or just fancy a quick pint.

I would give it 0 stars, but I can't. We had booked for 7 pm and arrived 10 minutes early. We ordered both starters and two carveries and a Lamb steak. We were advised on ordering that there was a 30-minute wait for the mains. That was fine, thinking the starters would be ate in the meantime. After 50 minutes, we chased the starters, and within a few minutes, they arrived. The carvery was very disappointing, there were three meats to choose from and a selection of vegetables, but these looked tired, they looked like they had been standing for a long time. The stuffing had been standing so long that it was difficult to get out. As normal, the staff served the meat, but it was cut by the same knife, and also, the one piece of meat was dropped on the side before being placed on the plate. This wasn't eaten. I hadn't been for several years and after this visit I won't be going again.

We've been coming here almost 20 years and never had a bad meal. We were a little worried when new owners took over that it would change, but is still fantastic. We've never had so much as an unclean fork; hopefully this long continues. No issue recommending to anyone, simply the best carvery we know.

I have enjoyed a delicious carvery here today. Lovely selection of vegetables and meats. All cooked to perfection. Will deffo be back. You need to book in advance to ensure you get a table. Well done guys!

My first visit after hearing so many positive reviews. Booked in advance a belated Mother’s Day meal. There was no carvery or email ahead of our visit to notify us of this. The pub was empty and we were put on a table squashed uncomfortably in the corner. Ordered alternative food which took 45 minutes to arrive Curry was warm with 1/4 of a naan bread. Staff was pleasant but generally the food was nothing special and I left feeling very disappointed and unsatisfied. Pub location set near a pretty little village but I probably wouldn’t bring my Partner here. A few hours after while I was at work I experienced painful stomach cramps and had a very upset tummy. I rang my Daughter and she was experiencing the same. For my first experience unfortunately it just wasn’t as positive as I had been expecting. Such a shame

What a gem of a place! 16oz rump steak was so tender and cooked to perfection. I cannot believe it was only £19. Originally we went for a carvery but decided to eat off the menu so I cannot comment on the carvery. Staff were very friendly and service was prompt.
