About This Pub

Ah, The Nabs Head – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in the heart of Samlesbury. From what I've gathered, the team there really know how to make you feel welcome, with staff who are all smiles and eager to help, turning a simple visit into a proper treat. The food stands out as a real highlight; think hearty roasts and pub favourites with portions so generous they'll have you loosening your belt a notch or two. It's also brilliant for those who fancy bringing along their four-legged friends, or just enjoying a quality pint in a cosy, rural setting. On the flip side, though, it's worth noting that the place is closed mid-week on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the kitchen takes a breather on Wednesdays, so you'll need to plan around that to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing – the good vibes and tasty grub make it easy to overlook the minor niggles, but it's always best to go in with your eyes open.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with generous portions of pub classics like those delicious roasts that leave you wanting for nothing.
  • It's a pet-friendly spot, so you can pop in with your furry mate after a countryside walk – always a nice touch.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, including premium gins and Thwaites cask ale, perfect for a relaxed evening.
  • The atmosphere is warm and cosy, set in a lovely rural village, making it ideal for a casual catch-up with friends.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which can be a bit of a nuisance if you're planning a mid-week visit.
  • The kitchen is shut on Wednesdays, so you might miss out on those tasty meals if you're not careful with your timing.
  • One or two folks mentioned drinks portions feeling a tad short, which could leave you wanting just a smidge more for your money.

Ordered one large and one small beef roast dinner, very reasonably priced. We had excellent service, staff extremely friendly, we give the service and dinner excellent 10 out of 10. Perfect.

Visited for lunch with a group and had a great experience. The Nabs Head is a lovely pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and plenty of parking, which made things easy. The menu has all the usual pub classics, but there are also some more interesting dishes like the sizzler, which is a mix of beef and chicken served sizzling hot on an iron skillet. You can choose rice, chips, or both, which is a nice touch, and that's offered with most of the dishes. Between us, we tried a good mix of mains and sides. Everything came out hot and freshly made, and you could tell a lot of care had gone into each plate. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal—no complaints at all. The dessert menu was a real highlight, with a great range of choices. All in all, a very enjoyable lunch and a proper local pub feel. Would happily recommend and look forward to going back.

Really nice rural pub. Used it as a base for a dog-walk, so was only polite to pop in for a pint before we set off. Friendly staff and friendly locals. I didn’t eat there but the food that other customers were having definitely looked good. BIG portions! Only downside was that a pint was just shy of £6, but I suppose that’s pretty much the norm these days. I’ll definitely call back in next time I’m walking the dog over that way.

Excellent Sunday roast here, there was a choice of 3 meats or a mixture - I had beef & chicken. It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. I’m a big fan of roasts and am usually disappointed but not with this one - I absolutely love cauliflower cheese and there it was!! Roasties perfect, veg cooked to perfection, gravy amazing and the Yorkshire pud was divine. Fab service and staff with good choice of drinks (we had a few pints of Paradise) Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏻
