About This Pub

Ah, The Murderers – what a gem of a pub in the heart of Norwich! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place has been serving up pints and plates since at least 1841, and it's still going strong as a family-run spot that's fiercely independent. The real ales are a standout; they're in tip-top condition and there's a great variety, perfect for settling in with friends for a chat. The atmosphere is just lovely, with that historic decor that gives it real charm, and it's ace for watching sports or catching some live music if you're in the mood. They've got food on offer all day, from breakfast through to dinner, with options for gluten-free and vegan folks, which is thoughtful. Plus, it's welcoming to dogs, as long as they're on their best behaviour – ideal if you're popping in with your four-legged pal. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides; it does get mobbed at times, so you might end up queuing for a table, and the music doesn't reach every corner, which could make it feel a bit subdued in spots. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a night out – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the niggles, and you'll likely leave with a smile and a full glass.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of real ales and ciders is absolutely spot on – it's a real treat for anyone who appreciates a proper pint.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with that classic old decor that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time, and it's got a nice mix of folks from all walks.
  • Friendly staff who provide great service, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry mate, as long as they're well-behaved and on a lead.
  • Award-winning for watching sports, with big screens and live music options that add to the buzz, especially during big events.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed, especially when food's being served, so you might have to wait for a table if you're after a sit-down meal.
  • The music isn't in every room, which could leave some areas feeling a bit quiet if that's what you're after.
  • There are a few rules for dogs, like no feeding them inside, which makes sense but might not suit everyone.
  • Prices are okay compared to nearby spots, but if you're on a tight budget, it might feel a tad steep for a round or two.

Nice largish pub with old decor and a nice mix of real ale and fizzy pop. Couple of decent ciders along side the alcho pops. Food menu looked really good. Decent atmosphere. Music not in all the rooms. Good mix of young and old Well worth the visit

Excellent pub. As a fan of real ale I was delighted to see so many cask conditioned beers and the ones I tried were in really good condition. Decor is great and really ties in with the theme of the pub. Definitely my go to pub next time I'm in Norwich.

Great service with friendly helpful staff beer prices were ok compared to other pubs in the area. It has loads of history being around since 1841. There can be a wait for tables it seems to get very busy especially when serving food, they have big TVs in the back of the pub for those who want to watch sports. We had a great time, the beer was great, the atmosphere brilliant and we will be calling again next time we are in Norwich.

A year or so ago I came to Norwich for the first time with my friends. After hearing our favourite podcasters talk about how much they loved the murderers, we of course had to have a look. I can happily say it’s a very lovely place. We spoke to a guy behind the bar about said podcast and he loved the fact he got so many fans coming in. Turns out this man was the famous Phil (the owner)!! He even showed us around and told us all about the history of the place, he was genuinely a great guy. We stayed for some food and then bought some merch!! A few months later, I ended up moving down to Norwich from Manchester because I loved Norwich so much. One day I found myself stuck in the centre with a dead phone battery and no money. I tried to look around the city for a place to charge my phone. As expected, most places said no. Losing hope, I walked up to the murderers. I asked one of the bartenders and he instantly said yes and put my phone on charge. As I stood there waiting nervously around a group of grown men watching football, the bartender asked if I wanted some water or anything. He made me feel very comfortable. I’ve never written a review for any place so you know this is truly meaningful. I fully recommend this pub.

Popped in after an afternoon Christmas shopping. This place was close and cute with a nice feeling. It offers home Cooked food early doors only. Gluten free and vegan is an option. They even do GF cocktails. We went as a couple would be great with friends.
