About This Pub
Ah, The Moon Under Water, that trusty old Wetherspoon spot in Wolverhampton – it's one of those places that always delivers on value, but isn't without its quirks. I have to say, what really stands out is how wallet-friendly everything is; you can tuck into a solid meal and a pint without breaking the bank, which makes it ideal for a casual catch-up with friends. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and quick to sort you out, and there's a cracking range of ales that won't set you back much. The food's straightforward and comforting – I quite enjoyed the cod and chips when I tried it – but it's not all roses; some reviews mention dodgy cooking, like fish that's overdone on the outside and under on the inside, which is a bit of a letdown. Plus, service can drag on, especially if it's busy, and on those match days, it's an absolute squeeze that might leave you wishing for a quieter corner. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after good value and a relaxed atmosphere, but keep expectations realistic – it's more about enjoying the basics than anything fancy. If you're heading out for a pint or a bite, I'd say give it a go, but maybe avoid the rush hours for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The prices are absolutely brilliant – you can get a hearty meal and a pint for under a tenner, which is a real winner for budget-conscious folks like us.
-
The staff are always friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
There's a great selection of low-priced ales and other drinks, perfect for a relaxed evening with mates.
-
The food hits the spot for simple, honest grub – think tasty cod and chips or a cracking breakfast at a steal.
-
It's in a handy location in Wolverhampton, easy to pop into after a wander around town.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be hit or miss, like that overcooked fish that was raw inside – not what you'd hope for.
-
You might end up waiting ages to place your order, which can put a damper on things if you're in a rush.
-
It gets absolutely packed on match days, making it tough to find a seat or even hear yourself think.
-
The floors can be a bit sticky and the place has that typical worn-in feel, so it's not the poshest spot.
-
It's more about no-frills vibes than fancy dining, so if you're after something gourmet, you might be disappointed.

Good location, friendly staff, and nice food, all for less than £8. What else I could ask for? 😀
Lovely food and brilliant staff your standard weatherspoon with toilets 🚻 right upstairs and sticky floors etc I must recommend the breakfast cheap and lovely avoid on a matchday when the Wolverhampton wanders are at home absolutely crammed and you can't understand a word but a fantastic public house 😀 👍
Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly helpful staff. Great choice of low-priced ales.
I purchased cod and chips, which were delicious. Selected between beans, peas, and mushy peas. I went for the mushy peas. Which were tasty and well prepared.
The only reason I scored 4 stars instead of 5 on food was the very small portion of chips. Very tasty chips, but to me, 14 chips is not a portion.
The chips looked so few I counted them.
There were 14.
Lovely chips, but a few more would not have gone amiss.
Overall, though, this pub is well worth a visit.
Absolutely disgusting.. fish was overcooked outside and raw inside … service is fine but you have to wait a lot yo make your order…
Cannot fault this place, not gormet food just honest grub and exceptional value for money. Where else can you go and spend £6.44 for a meal and a pint of Plumb Porter. Where most places charge £3.60 to £4.50 a pint alone and its kept adequately more so than naff Greene King pubs.
Went in again last night, hard to find a table.
Had scampi this time, was offered the smaller pensioners portion that says 2 till 5pm at 8.40pm, ask but had the normal with a pint of Titanic Plumb Porter £11.36. Downside is the barrel had gone only leaving mass produced no one wants ie Abbot and Boom Dar, phew just neck it, its tolerable.
Will be in regular.
