About This Pub
Ah, The Mitre – it's one of those unpretentious pubs that just hits the spot for a relaxed get-together with friends. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the live music every Saturday afternoon is a real highlight, creating that perfect backdrop for chatting over a well-poured pint. The prices are spot on too, feeling every bit as budget-friendly as your typical chain pub, which means you can enjoy a few rounds without breaking the bank. And let's not forget the staff; they're quick with a smile and make you feel like a regular from the get-go, which is always a plus in my book. On the flip side, it does have its quieter moments, especially later in the evening, so if you're after a lively, packed house, you might find it a bit subdued. Oh, and there's no food menu to speak of, which is a shame if you're hoping for pub grub alongside your drink. Still, for a straightforward, no-fuss spot to unwind, it's got plenty going for it, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep those expectations balanced for a genuine experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music on Saturday afternoons is an absolute treat – it's a brilliant spot to enjoy a pint and soak up the atmosphere with friends.
-
Drinks are incredibly affordable, much like at Wetherspoons, making it a wallet-friendly choice for a night out in Bishop Auckland.
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, always quick to serve and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
It's a top pick if you're into watching football; plenty of screens and a relaxed setting to catch the game with your mates.
Cons
-
It can get a bit quiet in the evenings, like one visit at 8:30 pm felt almost empty, which might not suit those after a bustling crowd.
-
No food on offer, so if you're peckish, you'll have to head elsewhere for a bite before or after your drinks.
-
With no website or much online presence, it's tricky to check out the latest details or events before popping in.

No food but great live music every Saturday afternoon and a great pint, the bros and I love it.
Love this pub with great prices and great staff our local stop when out in Bishop
Practically empty when we came at 8.30pm but appeared to have a lot to offer.
Drink prices very reasonable.
If you like 'Spoons prices but you want to watch a bit of football as well, this is a great choice if you're in Bishop Auckland.
Made to feel welcome, immediately. STAFF are very friendly and courteous. Cannot fault in any way. Thank you for your superior staff. Quick to get to you when needing any help. Unlike near bars that leaves you waiting half hour for service 🤣.
Once again thank you.
