About This Pub

You know, when I popped into The Mill Dam, it just felt like one of those proper local pubs that knows how to do things right. The food's a standout – think hearty Sunday lunches and burgers with amazing homemade sauces that leave you wanting more. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are spot on, always ready with a smile and happy to sort out any dietary tweaks, which is dead handy if you're out with the family or mates. They've got a cracking range of drinks too, from fine wines to real ales, and those weekly deals add a nice touch without breaking the bank. Of course, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of the food not being quite up to scratch on busier days, but from the latest feedback, they've sorted that out and are back on form. All in all, it's a solid pick if you're after a place with good grub, a bit of banter, and that cosy pub feel – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with homemade meals and traditional pub favourites that really hit the spot.
  • Service is top-notch – the staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, especially with large groups or special requests.
  • They handle dietary needs brilliantly, like gluten and dairy-free options, which makes it a great choice for everyone.
  • A fantastic selection of drinks, including real ales, wines, and spirits, plus some cracking deals like Wine Wednesdays.
  • The atmosphere is warm and lively, perfect for a casual get-together or family meal, with events like quiz nights adding to the fun.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit hit or miss at times, with the odd meal not quite living up to expectations, like a slightly burnt burger.
  • It gets pretty busy, so you might have to wait or book ahead to avoid any hassle.

Booked at The mill dam for 20 people the staff was very good at keeping everything organised. Lewis went above and beyond with all our guests making our time with him pleasuring and kept up with the banter. All our family and friends had a brilliant time. I dont think it would have been as much fun as it was if lewis didnt have quick witt and banter l he is such a lovely person and a credit to your team. The food was absolutely amazing everyone really enjoyed there food no one complained and had a lot of empty plates.

Back up to its usual standard. On my previous couple of visits, the food was not as great as normal but it was outstanding this time. The Sunday Lunch platter/Sharer is a great addition. Service and atmosphere are always great. It's a favourite of mine.

Had the mill dam dirty burger, chicken burger was a little burnt but the meal as a whole was absolutely delicious beef patty was nice and moist. Burger sauce was amazing. Normally I’m not a fan of homemade chips but these are within a different league. Upon sitting down and pondering about what to order the prices came across on the high side for pub food but after ordering meals with the family we spend an absolute reasonable £44 for three meals and three drinks. Staff members really accommodating with small Children and interactive with them as well. This isn’t your normal boring pub grub, I’d class this as a more bistro quality food in a pub. Will absolutely visit again and would 100% recommend anyone to go visit.
