About This Pub

Ah, The Milbourne Arms – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a proper British get-together. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is an absolute winner; folks rave about the Sunday lunches, with hearty portions and good value that make it a go-to for a satisfying meal. The beer selection is spot on too, giving you plenty of choices to pair with your chat over the table. It's dog-friendly and has that welcoming feel, especially if you're popping in for a quick warm-up on a rainy day. On the flip side, there have been a couple of mentions about the staff not always being the friendliest – one person noted a rather abrupt barman, which could sour things if you're after cheerful service. Overall, it's a solid spot with a high rating, so I'd say it's worth a visit, but maybe keep your expectations in check for the odd off moment. If you're in Carlisle and fancy a pint or a bite, this place could be just the ticket, as long as you're prepared for the quirks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, especially their Sunday roasts – think brilliant portions and great value that leave you feeling chuffed.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers and ales, perfect for settling in with mates after a long day.
  • Service is generally spot on, with friendly hosts who make you feel right at home, and it's even dog-friendly for those who bring their furry friends along.
  • It's a lovely spot just outside the city centre, offering a warm and welcoming vibe that's ideal for a relaxed meal or drink.
Cons
  • Occasionally, the staff can come across as a bit rude or abrupt, which might put a dampener on your visit if you're unlucky enough to encounter it.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid turning up when it's not open.

Really lovely pub just out of the city centre, good selection of beer/ale. The food is fantastic along with the service, excellent Sunday lunch.

Food was absolutely beautiful, couldn't fault it. However the man behind the bar at the time we were there, was rather rude and abrupt, it was like he didn't want our custom. A smile and politeness wouldn't go a miss 😊

Brilliant food, 4 of us had Sunday roasts and puddings, all very happy, brilliant portions and good value. Dog friendly little pub.

My family stopped to eat here on our road trip London to Edinburgh (we are from Canada). The owner let us in a fee minutes before opening and got us something warm to drink. It was raining outside and a bit cold. The hosts were amazing and the food was picturesque. We each ordered something different and loved it. A++ I recommend this if you are local or traveling. The food was glorious.
