About This Pub

Ah, The Maypole Inn – it's one of those cosy spots in Derby that you might stumble upon and end up loving for its unpretentious charm. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this great beer selection that keeps things interesting without overwhelming you, and the staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. I love how it's ideal for catching up with mates over a game of pool or watching F1 in peace, since it's not usually packed, which is a real plus if you're after a more relaxed vibe. They've got live music and even space for hiring out for parties, which sounds like a fun way to spice up an evening. On the flip side, it's tucked away a bit, so getting there might involve a bit of navigation, and parking can be a pain – nothing ruins a good night like circling the block. Plus, while the food's generally affordable and tasty, a couple of people mentioned it didn't agree with them, and there are some moans about the management not always delivering on promises, which is a shame. Overall, it's a solid choice for a night out if you're in the area, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and maybe check the times first to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is spot on, with a good variety that hits the mark for a relaxing pint.
  • Service is top-notch and really friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's a brilliant spot for watching things like F1 or playing pool, especially since it's often quiet, so you won't have to wait around.
  • They've got live music and gigs going on, which adds a fun vibe and makes for a great night out.
  • The food, like their pizzas, is decent and well-priced, plus there's space to hire for special dos if you're planning something.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit off the beaten track, so it might not be the easiest place to find if you're not local.
  • Parking seems to be a bit of a hassle, which could put a dampener on things after a few drinks.
  • Some folks have had dodgy experiences with the food, like it not sitting right, so it's worth being cautious.
  • There are occasional gripes about management or the brewery being a bit greedy, which might lead to inconsistencies.
  • The operating hours look a tad confusing from what I've seen, so double-check before heading out to avoid disappointment.

I come here to watch F1 and play pool with mates, the pub tends to be empty which is perfect cause the pool table is almost guaranteed to be free. The pub has a good beer selection and great service.

Very nice place for a gig!! My band performed here and we had a great time!! They also serve pizzas at the bar which are decent. Mine personally didn't agree with me and neither did my friend's pizza agree with him but apart from that it's a nice place and I would go there again

A good pub with good entertainment of music and art events but a little off the beaten track unless you are a local. There is a room for you to hire for special events like weddings etc. The food is good, well priced and good value for money. The staff are really friendly. I always feel parking is a problem for big party occasions
