About This Pub
You know, if you're wandering around Derby and fancy a proper pub experience, The Greyhound really hits the spot – it's got that fresh, refurbished feel that's just inviting from the moment you walk in. I love how they've nailed the beer side of things, with a rotating selection of craft and cask brews that keeps every visit feeling special, and the food's generally spot on too, with hearty options that go down a treat. The beer garden is an absolute gem, especially with its retractable roof, so you can soak up the sun or stay dry in a shower without missing a beat. They're brilliant for families or if you've got the dog in tow, and the weekly events add a nice buzz, whether it's catching the footy on the big screen or planning a get-together in their function room. That said, it's not all perfect – one or two folks have mentioned the food isn't flawless, like a burger that ended up a bit overcooked, and the opening times can be a bit of a puzzle, so you'd want to check ahead. All in all, though, it's a warm and welcoming place that does a lot right, and I'd happily recommend it for a good old chinwag over a pint.

The place was refurbished around a year ago and has got a whole new lease of life. New menu and new team of staff - lovely environment. I was excited to hear that the beers change regularly and that there's always something new to try plus the site has a wonderful new menu which includes an entire Gluten Free Menu and an entire Vegan Menu. Highly recommend.
Always a great selection of guest ales and other drinks. Food is good and comes in good time. Nice beer garden and indoor seating area.
Service has always been good.
Always passed this pub but never visited til a couple of weeks back. Really lovely inside (think they had a small refurb) and they have a big outside area too along with a terrace area full of seating. It’s difficult to find a pub in Derby city centre with a good outside area on a nice day so this is one of the best in my opinion. Great selection of beers and great staff too. Will definitely visit here again!
Atmosphere great music choice was also fun. I have the burger was good the burger patty itself was a little bit dry I think it had been left under the grill a little bit too long to melt the cheese but overall was good fries for great and seasoned well.
My wife have the chilli fries great portion size lots of flavor.
I would highly recommend the Greyhound there is a lot of things on the menu I'm looking forward to trying and also the value was excellent.
Update February 2023: Nothing much has changed, this time I ate there. Had the the burger with pulled beef with triple-cooked fries. It was very good, which adds to my recommendation. The number of cask ales is solid: 4 handpumps on the front bar 3 to the back (Different ones, apparently), all well kept. Staff was very nice, too.
Original review:
Excellent real ale pub on Friar Gate: Fine selection of non-standard hand pumped ales, all well kept. Recommended: Dashingly Dark from the Derby Brewing Company. Friendly staff, great community atmosphere, not too loud. Quite comfy, too. Kept in great shape. Definitely worth a look for a Derby pub crawl, even if it's a short walk from the city centre.
