About This Pub

Ah, The Horse and Groom – it's one of those pubs in Derby that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered, the staff are an absolute delight, always up for a bit of banter and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. They've got a fantastic array of drinks on offer, and the live gigs add a real spark, turning it into a lively spot for music lovers. It's also dead handy if you're with your dog, as they make them feel part of the crowd too, and the prices are spot on – nothing too flashy, just good value for a pint or two. On the flip side, it might not be the best choice if you swing by during the day; things can be a tad quiet, and there have been a few grumbles about the cask ales not always being up to snuff, which could disappoint if that's your thing. All in all, it's a solid pick for a night of good craic, but worth keeping in mind those quieter spells to get the most out of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Friendly staff who always make you feel right at home, just like chatting with old mates
  • A cracking selection of quality drinks and regular live gigs that keep things lively
  • That authentic old-school pub vibe, perfect for unwinding after a long day
  • Dog-friendly setup, so you can bring your four-legged friend along for the fun
  • Reasonably priced pints that won't break the bank, making it a great spot for a casual night out
Cons
  • It can be a bit quiet during the daytime, which might not suit if you're after a buzzing atmosphere
  • Some issues with cask ales not always being fresh or available, which is a shame for ale enthusiasts

Great dog friendly local pub with friendly bar staff and a nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced too, a pint of Guinness and a pint of Carling £9.20.

Great venue to see live bands, good range of ales and a worthwhile pub to visit for local musical talent. Friendly and well run. Well worth visiting. M

I visited The Horse and Groom pub during the day when it was pretty much dead (only two other punters). Most of the cask ales were not available, and the one that was turned out to be oxidized. A friend from Derby had recommended this place, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt that I simply had bad luck. As it is, a typical, fairly roomy community boozer with (theoretically) 5 ales on tap. With a pool table in the back.
