About This Pub

Ah, The Masons Arms – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening out. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food really steals the show; whether it's their hearty Sunday dinners or those tempting starters like belly pork, it's all cooked to perfection and leaves you feeling chuffed. The staff are an absolute gem, always friendly and on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly, even if there's a minor hiccup like a wait for dessert – they handle it with such good grace that it hardly dampens the mood. The atmosphere is nicely done too, with comfortable seating and a touch of class in the decor, making it feel a bit more special than your average local. On the flip side, it's not without its quirks; the menus are pretty straightforward and might seem a tad underwhelming if you're hoping for something more polished, and it can be quieter than expected on some visits, which is fine if you fancy a peaceful chat but less ideal for a big night out. All in all, it's a reliable gem in Rotherham that's worth a try if you're after good grub and a warm welcome, though it might not be the place for non-stop excitement.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is an absolute treat – think mouthwatering Sunday roasts and dishes like chicken, ribs, and belly pork that leave you wanting more.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and quick to sort out any little issues, making every visit feel relaxed and enjoyable.
  • It's got a lovely atmosphere with comfortable furniture and a slightly upscale feel to the decor, perfect for a cosy catch-up over a pint.
  • Prices are spot on for what you get, offering great value without breaking the bank, especially for the quality of the meals and drinks.
Cons
  • There can be the odd wait for things like desserts, though the team do keep you in the loop, so it's not a total deal-breaker.
  • Menus are a bit basic, printed on regular paper, which might not live up to that upscale vibe if you're expecting something fancier.
  • It might feel a tad quiet at times, especially on certain evenings, so if you're after a lively buzz, it could disappoint just a smidge.

We came tonight for food around 7pm, the food was lovely I will definitely come back. Staff were really friendly and welcoming and the food and drink is well priced. I would recommend to anyone who hasn’t been since the new owners have been in.

Seriously impressed. We went to the masons on Thursday for something to eat. We’ve been before and remember the pub is well decorated and has a slightly up-market feel. The pub was very quiet when we visited with two young lads serving at the bar. The menus we were given were on printer paper and the table numbers have been hand written on masking tape affixed to the tables. The menu appeared quite basic and seriously under-priced. We were therefore quite skeptical about the food and expected it be low quality and not in keeping with the up market look and feel of the masons… How wrong we were! The food had quite clearly all been freshly prepared and made from scratch in the kitchen. The portion sizes were very generous. While this is by no means haute cuisine, it was by far and away one of the best homemade pub meals I’ve had in a long time. From our experience it appears to us that the masons has recently changed management. Which hopefully explains the lack of proper menus and table numbers. While they are finding their feet I’d recommend anyone wanting a great quality and generously portioned meal pay a visit immediately! We had 2 started and 2 mains and had change from £30 - not often you can say that in 2025. A must visit.

Fantastic bar staff, really friendly, helpful and jolly. One of the best Sunday dinners in Sheff. Perfect place and really nice, comfortable furniture. Great place, would absolutely recommend.

First time visit and we will definitely be back! Staff are all very friendly and welcoming here, there was a little delay with our dessert but the staff kept us informed so wasn't a problem. I would like to say the desserts were definitely worth the wait, delicious! The food we chose from the menu was outstanding, compliments to the chef. Can't wait to come back 😊
