About This Pub
Ah, The Masons Arms – what a gem it is in Headington! From what I've gathered from the reviews and their own buzz, it's got that perfect blend of a traditional English pub feel with a real sense of community, where everyone from locals to visitors chats away like old mates. The beers are spot on, with a fantastic range of guest ales and ciders that change up regularly, and the outdoor spaces make it ideal for a sunny afternoon or even a cosy evening under the heaters. It's no surprise they've racked up those CAMRA awards; it's clear they put heart into creating a fun atmosphere with quizzes and sports on the screens. On the flip side, though, the hours can be a tad unreliable, and if you're hoping for a bite to eat beyond maybe some bar snacks, you might be out of luck. Still, for a relaxed night out with good company and cracking drinks, it's definitely one I'd recommend giving a go – just check those opening times first to avoid any disappointment!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and create such a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home, like you're part of the community.
-
They've got an amazing selection of real ales, craft beers, and ciders that keep things fresh and exciting – it's a real treat for beer enthusiasts.
-
The outdoor garden and heated decking area are brilliant for enjoying a pint in any weather, adding to that cosy, year-round appeal.
-
It's packed with fun activities like darts, quizzes, and sports on the telly, which really bring people together for a good laugh.
-
With all those CAMRA awards under their belt, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a top-notch, authentic pub experience that's stood the test of time.
Cons
-
The operating hours can be a bit patchy, with it closed one day a week and varying Sunday times, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit.
-
It's more of a 'wet sales only' spot, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere as the food options seem limited.
-
Being unclaimed on Google and with a somewhat basic website, it feels like they could do more to keep things updated and engaging online.

Real fun pub for local community. Friendly staff and family vibe. We need more of these in the community
I've been coming here for the last 10 years, and having moved from London found this to be one of the most idilic and well mannered pubs here in Oxford. Both Chris and Matt are wonderful landlords who pride their establishment. It is why I say this pub is one worth its merit!
Wet sales only pub. Best local boozer i have ever set foot in
Genuine and authentic English pub experience for some tourists from Canada. Very tidy with a lovely outdoor patio and garden. Friendly staff and clientele who were welcoming and courteous. It’s easy to see why it’s received so many accolades.
One of the best pubs for miles around. A nice quiet hidden gem. Proper trappist & Belgian beers, real ales, an unbeatable cosy home from home. Landlord Chris is a great bloke. Cheers!
