About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Marquess Tavern, it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its welcoming vibe. The staff are absolute stars, always ready with a smile and a chat, which makes it feel like a proper local haunt. That terrace out front is a real winner on a sunny day, giving you a chance to soak up some rays while admiring the leafy street – it's just the ticket for a lazy afternoon. The beers are spot on too, nicely kept and full of flavour, so if you're after a good pint in a historic setting, this place delivers. On the downside, though, the food hasn't impressed everyone; it's come across as a bit underwhelming, so you might want to stick to drinks and pop to another spot for a proper meal. Overall, it's a gem for atmosphere and friendliness, but keep expectations in check for the eats – still, I'd recommend it for a casual get-together.

This is a very friendly store, and my phone ran out of battery and I got lost. Then I happened to be next to this store, so I went in, and Pete warmly greeted me and charged my phone. The lights in this store are also very beautiful. The wine is also very good to drink, and I will definitely come here often when I have time in the future.

🚇 Highbury & Islington 🍺 £6.60 Brixton Pale Ale This imposing Grade II-listed pub sits in the tranquil backstreets of Canonbury, North London. The nearest Tube station is Highbury & Islington. This pub was built in 1854 by developer James Wagstaffe and is named after the Marquess of Northampton, who developed much of the area. George Orwell lived nearby on Canonbury Square; he wrote Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four while living there and is believed to have frequented the pub. This is a good sized, one-bar pub with the main bar area at the front and a dining area with a large atrium at the back. The servery is centrally located at the front and features a beautifully polished counter. The décor here is predominantly traditional, with some contemporary touches in the dining area. The main bar area has a boarded floor, dark wall panels, two fireplaces, and a mix of seating. The dining area offers a striking contrast, with bold colours, floral wallpaper, and an eclectic mix of lighting fixtures. At the rear of the pub is a decked beer garden, and there is also outdoor seating at the front. The beer selection will please the masses, offering a lineup of familiar keg favourites and three cask ales. I opted for a Brixton Pale Ale—my pint was excellent, price point was above average. The food menu features elevated pub classics; fish and chips costs £20, and hearty roasts are available on Sundays. I arrived just after 5 p.m. on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon in April. It was great to see the pub busy with a diverse clientele from all walks of life. The atmosphere outside was upbeat and lively, while inside it was a bit more reserved. The service was pleasant—the team on duty had everything under control and were all smiles and courteous. Lots of positives to report from the @marquesscanonbury .First of all, the building is a wonderful piece of Victorian architecture that really draws you in. The décor creates a traditional pub environment to enjoy, and the choice of beers will please most. I had a thoroughly enjoyable visit—this pub comes highly recommended. 📅 5th April 2025 More London pub info on socials @londonpubmap 🍻

We walked to this charming pub for the first time last night. It might be one of my favourite’s in the area for style. It’s very cozy yet elegant. I really love the elevated old school charm of the place. It’s a perfect spot for drinks. The food however, was quite disappointing. It was mediocre, especially the burger. When I read other reviews about how great the food is, it makes me think we had a different chef or maybe an off night. I’m not sure. The service was fine and the guy leading the pub quiz seemed great. I really had high hopes that this would be my new favourite local spot. We will return for drinks, but probably not for food.

A very pleasant atmosphere in this pub. Had an Old Speckled hen, while the others had London Pride. The beer was well kept and the staff friendly.
