About This Pub

Ah, Smokehouse, what a lovely find in Islington! I've got to say, it's one of those places that really delivers on the classics, especially their Sunday roasts – think melt-in-your-mouth lamb or beef with all the trimmings, paired with a cracking beer or wine selection that's hard to beat. The team there are dead helpful and create such a warm atmosphere, making it feel like you're catching up with old friends over a meal. They're all about sourcing the best stuff, from daily fresh fish to farm-fresh meat, and grilling it up with real care. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect; a couple of folks have shared that it didn't quite live up to the hype for them, maybe feeling a bit ordinary in places, and with prices on the moderate side, it might stretch the budget if you're going for the full feast. Still, for anyone after a solid, honest pub meal with a focus on quality, I'd give it a go – it's got that genuine charm that keeps you coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with standout Sunday roasts that have people raving about the tender meat and flavour-packed gravy.
  • They've got an incredible beer list with 20 on tap and 60 in bottles, plus wines from small family vineyards – perfect for a proper pint or a glass with mates.
  • The service is spot on, with friendly and attentive staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in.
  • It's all about quality ingredients, like fresh fish from Cornish markets and meat from top UK farms, grilled over charcoal for that authentic smoky taste.
Cons
  • A few visitors have mentioned that the experience didn't quite hit the mark, like one who found their meal enjoyable but a tad underwhelming compared to expectations.
  • With a moderate price tag, it can add up quickly if you're tucking into the full works, so it's worth keeping an eye on the bill.
  • The opening hours might vary a bit, especially on Sundays, which could catch you out if you're planning a spontaneous visit.

Not surprised that I enjoyed this one! We got the lamb roast to share and it was spectacular!! The meat just fell right off the bone. And the mint sauce! Trust me, get the mint sauce. The sticky toffy pudding as well I think is my favourite. It’s moist, sweet (n but not overly) with a slight chew on the outside. Stunning interiors too

I visited The Smokehouse for a Sunday roast, and, while I enjoyed it, I feel the experience fell just a little short of expectations. I had sourdough bread to start, the porchetta (pork belly) roast, and a glass of wine. The bread came with oil & butter and was a simple, yet satisfying way to kick off the meal. Next came the roast & while the sides were up to standard, I was disappointed to find that they don’t do crispy skin on the porchetta. It wasn’t the best tasting pork I’ve ever had, but I wouldn’t say it was bad by any means - however, the lack of crispy skin emphasized the fattiness a bit too much, and made it a little bit harder to enjoy. The wine complemented the meal well however, and, with the fine service also taken into account, I would still say it was an enjoyable, positive experience overall.

Really delicious Sunday roast. The beef was tender, the vegetables still a bit crisp and the gravy was bursting with flavour. Good cocktails too.

I went there with my husband, of course on a Sunday, to try their famous Sunday roast! What can I say, it was delicious! We had the lamb and it melted in our mouths — not to mention the gravy, out of this world! The staff was young, well-prepared, attentive, and friendly! Unfortunately, I don’t live in London, otherwise I’d go back every Sunday!

I came for Sunday roast and really enjoyed the atmosphere and food here. The service was good, very attentive. We ordered sourdough bread with beef dripping and butter, simple but DELICIOUS. Then continued to order our roast lunch. The quality of the food was great with all the usual trimmings, I would have preferred a more medium rare beef, but it was more medium so a little tough. But otherwise a decent Sunday roast!
