About This Pub

Ah, The Market Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in the heart of Watford. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this lovely, chilled atmosphere where you can easily strike up a chat with folks, and the staff are spot on, always making you feel right at home. The beer selection is a real highlight, with a good range of real ales that hit the spot, and it's brilliant for watching live sports or even bringing your dog along for the ride. Prices are fair too, so it's easy on the wallet for a casual evening. On the flip side, though, the gents' toilets need some serious attention – a bit of a shame when the rest is so inviting. And parking's a hassle, as it often is in busy areas, but once you're in, it's worth it for the welcoming feel. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a traditional pub experience with a warm crowd, just keep those minor downsides in mind for a balanced visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely lovely and chilled, making it a great spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • Staff are always friendly and welcoming, which really adds to the traditional pub vibe.
  • They've got a solid selection of beers and real ales, perfect if you're after something proper and tasty.
  • Prices are very reasonable, so you won't break the bank for a good night out.
  • It's dog-friendly and shows live sports, which makes it ideal for game days or just popping in with your furry friend.
  • Plenty of nearby places for a quick bite, adding to the convenience if you're staying for a while.
Cons
  • The gents' toilets could do with a thorough clean and some TLC – it's a bit of a letdown in an otherwise nice spot.
  • Parking can be a right pain on the street, though there are some spaces around if you're patient.
