About This Pub

Ah, The Malt Shovel – it's one of those unassuming pubs that you stumble upon and end up loving for its down-to-earth charm. From the reviews I've had a look at, it's clear folks are chuffed with the cosy atmosphere; it's just the right spot for a quiet afternoon pint or a lively Friday night with the DJ spinning tunes. The food gets high marks too – think hearty, well-priced meals that hit the spot, especially if you're on a road trip and need a break from the usual service station grub. And the staff? They're absolute stars, going out of their way to make you feel welcome, which really lifts the whole experience. On the flip side, there's this cat that's a bit of a handful – it might eye you up suspiciously or demand attention, which could be amusing for some but a nuisance for others. Plus, being a smaller venue, it might not be the best for larger groups, and the outdoor options are a bit limited if the weather's playing ball. All in all, it's a solid choice for a budget-friendly night out, but I'd say it's best if you're up for a bit of character and don't mind the odd hiccup – definitely worth a visit to see for yourself!

Cons
-

There's an aggressive cat hanging about that might give you a bit of a fright or put you off if you're not keen on feisty felines.

-

The pub is on the small side, so it can feel a tad cramped when it gets busy, especially if you're after more space to spread out.

Outdoor seating is limited, which might not suit you if you'd rather enjoy your pint al fresco on a nice day.

I popped in here on Sunday because the church was closed and I was too early for a mothering Sunday service. Nice little cosy pub with an aggressive cat. She came to the door, looked at me and demanded I open the door. I ignored her and she gave me a dirty look. I went to the counter and saw all the notices about her abd heard the stories. She pretends to be nice then bites you. I swear when she came back in she was giving me dirty looks.
Excellent find. We were on our way from the north to visit family in the south. Didn't want to stop to eat at Warwick services and saw this which was just off the M40. Couldn't be happier, excellent food at a reasonable price and the service was good too. Definitely recommend.
Always a great night out djs amazing staff and management make you feel welcome.
Love my friday evening's there. X
Nice local pub. Went in during the daytime, so can't say what evening is like but we need support our local pubs or they will disappear.
Pretty decent pub, small and cosey with good atmosphere. Handful of outdoor seating. Good choice of draught, Rattler cider is a rarity on tap.
