About This Pub

Ah, The Lord Harrowby – what a gem of a pub in Grantham! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that proper local feel where the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, which is just lovely. I mean, hearing about their award-winning real ales and the decent selection of beers on tap really makes me want to pop down for a pint. The beer garden sounds like a brilliant spot to unwind, and having a pool room adds a fun twist for a casual night out. Plus, it's all at a reasonable price, so you can enjoy without worrying about the wallet. On the flip side, though, the opening times look a bit muddled, and their online presence isn't quite up to scratch – I couldn't get much from the website, which might leave you scratching your head if you're trying to plan ahead. And it's so popular that snagging a table for food can be a challenge, which is a shame if you're in the mood for a bite. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of real ales and beers, including some top-notch local brews that earned them a CAMRA award – it's a real treat for beer enthusiasts.
  • The beer garden is spacious and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing pint on a sunny day.
  • There's a pool room for a bit of fun, and the drinks are great value, so you won't break the bank.
  • The atmosphere is genuinely warm and inclusive, which is especially nice if you're someone who might feel a bit anxious in social settings.
Cons
  • The opening hours seem a tad inconsistent based on what's listed, which might make it tricky to plan a visit without double-checking.
  • Their website isn't the easiest to navigate – I had trouble accessing it, so you might need to pop in or call ahead for the latest info.
  • It gets pretty popular, especially for food, so you could struggle to get a table without booking in advance, which might put a dampener on spontaneous trips.

Went in a few weeks ago with a few of the Grimsby branch of CAMRA, was my first visit but won't be my last. Voted Lincolnshire CAMRA pub of the year and well deserved, congratulations to the management and staff.

Very good selection of beers and good local brewer. Did not order food but it looked good for other diners. It is popular for food as we could not get a booking with casual visit. Excellent pub.

A genuine diamond in the rough and a hidden gem to boot. I have Asperger's and social anxiety was just looking to explore Grantham when I stumbled upon this place, never would I have expected to feel so welcome in a local pub. The landlady and manager extremely friendly and even the other patrons. Some seriously great music playing. Felt like I'd walked into a family and was part of it 2pints in. Amazing selection of beers and ales, probably some nice largers too but those aren't for me. Extremely nice atmosphere, super comfy and clean. I can't express how surprised and delighted I was about discovering this place. Only downside was that I eventually had to leave,
