About This Pub

Oh, what a treat The Lord Clifden is, tucked away in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter; it's got that timeless pub charm with a modern twist that's just lovely for a catch-up with mates. I have to say, the refurbishment has done wonders – it's spotless and cosy, with a real sense of history that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The food is a highlight; everything from their small plates to the burgers and Sunday roasts comes out fresh and full of flavour, and it's all at a fair price that won't break the bank. Pair that with their excellent drinks lineup, and you've got yourself a proper good night out. The events are brilliant too – whether it's a quiz night or live music in the garden, there's always something on to liven things up, and that massive beer garden is perfect for soaking up the sun or catching the game. On the flip side, it's not quite set up for families just yet, with no kids' menu, so you might want to think twice if you're bringing the little ones. And do keep an eye on those opening times, as they can vary, especially on Sundays, to avoid any disappointment. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts; it's got that balance of tradition and fun, and while it's not flawless, the positives far outweigh the niggles – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a relaxed pint or a bite to eat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's a beautifully refurbished Victorian pub with a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • The food is spot on; they've got mouth-watering small plates, burgers, sandwiches, and pub classics, plus specials like Yorkshire pudding burritos and Sunday roasts that are real crowd-pleasers.
  • Drinks selection is top-notch, with a great range of indie beers, cask ales, world lagers, fine wines, and spirits – and the bar staff are spot on with their recommendations.
  • Loads of fun events to keep things lively, like DJ nights, live music, quiz evenings, and even open mic nights; plus, there's a massive beer garden with a giant screen for watching sports.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going the extra mile, whether it's for families or just a quick pint.
Cons
  • It's a tad adult-focused at the moment, with no dedicated kids' menu yet, so it might not be the best spot for a family outing if you're after child-friendly options.
  • The operating hours seem a bit variable, especially on Sundays, which could catch you out if you're planning a late visit.
  • As it's a popular spot, it can get quite busy during events or weekends, making it tricky to find a seat if you pop in spontaneously.

If you've not been since it reopened you should definitely try and visit. Pub is spotless, everything is top notch. I had Eggs Benedict, best I've ever eaten and as expected good choice of ales 🍺

Great spot for a drink with a delicious food menu. Tried the pigs in blankets at Christmas and a delicious sandwich on their new lunch menu. Can’t wait to come back and try out more!

Great to see this pub open again! We visited for a post Christmas lunch. The food was all home cooked and really good value for money. We had children with us and even though there is no kids menu yet, the staff were more than accommodating. Great selection of drinks, cask beers and ales. The garden space at the back will be amazing when the summer arrives. Will definitely be visiting again with and without the children!

Fantastic to see this place open again and back to what it should be. A traditional JQ Pub with great atmosphere, beers and food. They have knocked out the bar and corridor to make one large room which works perfectly. Didn’t try the food but the menu looks great. Well done to the new owners.
