About This Pub

Ah, The Lord Burton – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that you can always count on for a solid night out without breaking the bank. I love how they've kept things affordable, with tasty food and a decent range of ales, including some local ones that really nod to Burton's famous brewing history. The beer garden is an absolute highlight; it's huge and catches the sun nicely, even on a chilly January day, as one chap mentioned. Service-wise, from what I've seen in the reviews, the team seems cheerful and efficient, which always makes a visit more enjoyable. On the flip side, it does have that typical chain feel – nothing too distinctive about the decor, so it might not wow you if you're after something more intimate or quirky. Plus, it can get a bit heaving during busy hours, and with an overall rating hovering around good but not outstanding, there might be the odd off day with food or crowds. All in all, though, it's a friendly place I'd happily recommend for a casual catch-up with mates; just pop in, grab a pint, and enjoy the vibe without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food and drinks are incredibly affordable, making it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly pint or meal without skimping on quality.
  • It's spacious with plenty of seating, and the beer garden is a real gem, especially on a sunny day – perfect for soaking up the rays.
  • The service is generally spot on, with friendly staff and a good selection of real ales, including some lovely local brews that tie into Burton's brewing heritage.
  • The interior has a charming touch with bright lighting and historical details on the walls, giving it a welcoming, homely feel.
Cons
  • As a chain pub, it can sometimes feel a bit generic and lacking in that unique, cosy atmosphere you'd get from an independent spot.
  • It might get quite busy at peak times, which could mean waits for service or finding a seat, especially in a lively town like Burton-on-Trent.
  • The overall rating suggests there might be occasional inconsistencies, perhaps with food preparation or crowd management, even if the recent reviews have been positive.

Great Spoons in Burton. The usual combination of food at reasonable prices, real ales and good service. Definitely one I'll be returning to, every time I'm in festivals down the road at Catton Hall.

Credit to Spoons for selling some of the locally brewed ales in this former Woolies store. A huge beer yarden at the back is a great ☀️ trap - even in January!

This was a lovely pub for drinking, with a lush interior contributed to from the bright lighting! The brewery town history is carried by the details on the walls and windows have a pretty styling, counter is well-presented too. I had a fresh pint of Staropramen, enjoying the sun in the outside seating that was kept clean!

Nice 'spoons on the high street, with a large beer garden at the back. I was on a visit to my home town and popped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning so it was very quiet, but the food was good.
