About This Pub

Ah, The Longbar – it's one of those Bristol gems that you hear about from mates and end up visiting time and again. From what I've gathered, the drinks are dead cheap, which is always a plus when you're out for a casual pint or two, and it's got this genuine old-school pub feel that's far from the fancy wine bars popping up everywhere. The crowd seems spot on, with plenty of locals adding to the buzz, and they've got regular events like karaoke and quiz nights that really bring people together for a laugh. On the downside, there was that tale of a barman getting a bit defensive when someone lost their drink – fair enough, it's not their job to watch your glass, but it does highlight how things can get a tad rowdy in a busy spot. Plus, it's a bit of a shame they've had to ban dogs because of a couple of incidents; I know some folks love taking their furry companions along. All in all, with a solid 4.4 rating from the reviews, it's a place that does most things right and is well worth checking out if you're after an authentic, no-frills pub experience in Bristol.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Incredibly affordable drinks that make it a great spot for a budget night out.
  • A welcoming atmosphere with plenty of character, feeling like a true local legend in Bristol.
  • Fun events like karaoke and quiz nights that keep things lively and engaging.
  • Friendly staff and owners who add to the charm and make you feel right at home.
Cons
  • Occasional run-ins with staff attitudes, like one instance where things got a bit heated over a missing drink.
  • The decision to ban dogs might put off those who enjoy bringing their pets along, even if it's due to a few troublemakers.
  • In a busy spot, there's a risk your drink could go walkabout, as it's not always easy to keep an eye on things.

I had a drink on the bar, everybody saw me put it there. I'm not sure whether the barman, Will, picked it up or some random nicked my pint however went confronting the Will about it, he got all lairy at me saying 'it's not my job to keep an eye on pints'. Which in all fairness its not, however he saw me put my pint down, he saw me go out outside to take a 5 min phone call. He was not in the least bit interested when I said to him my pint was missing. Fellas around me also witnessed me me put my pint down on the bar. I asked for cctv review. Not sure if he had clearance or not, he wouldn't say, but very poor staffmanship from Will at the bar. Been here many times before, top notch pub, but today I was wholly disappointed.

Welcoming and cheap! The place has tons of character and is a bit of a local legend, most bristolians have ended up here at some point in their life and personally I find it has a certain charm!

If you are looking for a place with the cheapest beer and the nicest people, this is definitely your place in town. Super kind owners will serve you there. They also organise karaoke nights and quiz nights which you can check out and follow through "thelongbarbristol1" at IG.

A proper old school pub with very reasonable priced drinks and a fantastic crowd of locals. No generic brown leather seats or tinny pop music playing - a trendy wine bar this is not - it’s a British pub that’s been the starting point for many of my adventure in Bristol! I would often visit alone - and quickly find myself in friendly conversation with a fellow drinker and never failed to have a good time. Check your prejudices at the door, step back in time and enjoy a nice beer or cider that won’t hammer your wallet. It’s a little rough around the edges - just like a proper pub should be!
