About This Pub
Ah, The Links Tavern – it's one of those unassuming spots in Edinburgh that you stumble upon and think, 'Why haven't I been here sooner?' From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this genuine, welcoming feel where the staff, like Alan, go out of their way to make you comfortable and even share a bit of the pub's history. The interior is charmingly old-school with wood panelling and a hint of horse racing excitement, plus there's a good mix of beers and spirits to choose from, though nothing that'll blow your mind. On the flip side, it's tucked away in Restalrig, so it might not be the easiest find if you're not in the area, and things can feel a bit standard without any standout features. Still, with its community spirit and friendly banter, it's a cracking place for a casual catch-up or a quiet pint, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after that true local pub experience without the tourist crowds.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, like chatting with an old mate behind the bar – Alan and the team really make you feel at home.
-
It's got that authentic, old-school charm with original wood panelling and a cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxing pint.
-
A decent selection of beers, spirits, and ales keeps things interesting, especially if you're after a classic wee dram or a standard brew.
-
The local banter and community vibe are spot on; it's a proper Edinburgh local where you can enjoy some friendly chats and even learn about the pub's history.
-
With a touch of horse racing flair and plenty of TVs, it's a great spot for catching the races or just soaking in the lively energy.
Cons
-
It's a bit off the beaten track in Restalrig, so if you're not local, you might miss it unless you're specifically seeking it out.
-
The beer selection is pretty standard, without anything too fancy or unique to really stand out from other pubs.
-
There haven't been many recent reviews, which might mean it's not drawing in as many new visitors lately, making it feel a tad quiet at times.
-
No website or online presence beyond Google makes it harder to get more details before popping in, which could be a minor hassle.

Lovely authentic little pub. Alan was a very friendly host. It was great to find out about the history of the pub. If you find yourself off the beaten tourist track, pop on for a wee dram.
Walked past this pub many many times, so finally got round to having a quick drink in there on the way home from night out. What can you say well its a proper local boozer. Decent friendly banter from the locals, the bar staff have sharp sense of humour. The beer selection is standard for this type of place, but the prices are fair. The decor has not changed since the 70's/80's but I prefer that to the modern pubs that try and fail to emulate it.
Great, friendly local with a touch of horse racing. Brilliant staff to be true and a good local crowd. Seems daft it's taken nearly 10 years to visit a pub less than 1km away from me. I'll be back😉
