About This Pub

Ah, The Leyton Star – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Leyton, you know? From the moment you step in, you're greeted with this effortlessly cool atmosphere, all fairy lights and friendly chatter, making it easy to settle in for the evening. The staff really shine through; they're polite, professional, and always up for a laugh, whether it's sorting out a big birthday bash in the Gold Room or helping you catch the big match on the telly. The food doesn't disappoint either – those Moody's dipped sandwiches and the Sunday roast are absolute winners, perfect for tucking into after a long week. And let's not forget the events; there's karaoke with fizz specials, themed quizzes, and even life drawing sessions that keep things lively without overwhelming the place. It's got a fantastic beer garden too, ideal for those warmer days when you fancy a pint al fresco. On the flip side, though, the hours can be a bit muddled, so you might want to plan ahead to make sure it's open when you fancy popping by. Plus, it can get properly packed during peak times, which is great for the buzz but not so much if you're after a peaceful corner for a deep chat. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts – honest, with its highs and a few quirks, but definitely worth a visit for a balanced, enjoyable experience.

Pros and Cons

  • The staff are absolute gems; they're friendly, accommodating, and go the extra mile, like helping with event setups or even joining in on the fun for a themed party.
  • The food is a real treat – think delicious burgers, dipped sandwiches, and a superb Sunday roast that's become a favourite among locals.
  • There's always something happening, from live sports screenings and karaoke nights to quizzes and poker evenings, keeping things fresh and exciting for every visit.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot for soaking up the sun, especially with those bookable spaces for groups, making it ideal for summer gatherings.
Cons
  • The operating hours can seem a tad confusing at times, with varying schedules listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading out to avoid any disappointment.
  • It does get quite busy on weekends and during events, which might make it a bit of a squeeze if you're after a quiet pint or a relaxed chat.
  • While the food and drinks are solid, there aren't many options highlighted for those with specific dietary needs beyond what's mentioned, so it might not cater to everyone straight away.

Stumbled into the Leyton Star on a whim and left wondering why I hadn’t been sooner. This place strikes the perfect balance between laid-back local and lively weekend spot. The vibe? Effortlessly cool without trying too hard—think fairy lights, mismatched furniture, and a buzz of friendly conversation. The drinks selection is solid: craft beers on tap and decent wines, Food-wise, it's classic pub grub with a twist. The burgers are dangerously good, and the Sunday roasts could convert even the most stubborn takeaway loyalist. Bonus points for their big garden out back—perfect for lazy afternoons or warm summer evenings. Staff were genuinely lovely—chatty, fast on the service, and clearly enjoy working there. You feel welcomed, not just served. Would I go back? Already planning to. Whether you're out for after-work pints, a low-key date, or just need a local that feels like a second living room, Leyton Star delivers.

I had my 40th birthday party upstairs in the gold room and it was fab. The staff were lovely and extremely accommodating (even donning a wig or two for my fancy dress theme). Also shout out to Moody's dip sandwiches which were delicious and catered to our dietary requirements with no issues. Thank again!

Great Service and Atmosphere! Went to the Leyton Star yesterday with friends – always a great time! Big thanks to George for the excellent service, as always polite and professional. He helped me catch a match I wanted to watch, which I really appreciated. I also tried the beef sandwich for the first time – absolutely perfect for the pub vibe and atmosphere. Can’t wait to try something different next time. Thanks again to George and all the friendly, well-trained staff – especially Philip behind the bar. See you again soon!

I'll take a picture of the sublime sausage and mash next time, but it looked so good that I just dived right in 😅 I admit, I stopped eating here over a year ago but I was persuaded to try their new menu 2 weeks ago. I had the slow cooked beef sandwich, which was pretty good (I'd love an option to add cheese). Today, I got the sausage and mash. It was so beautifully cooked and presented that it would be a crime not to leave a review. Huge kudos to the new chef! The food is amazing now! I'll take a picture next time! 10/10 x

We came for the Sunday Roast and it was superb! Best one we had in London so far. Highly recommended for both groups of family and friends. The manager, George, was very friendly and always with a smile!
