About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Lead Station – it's this lovely spot in Chorlton that's been around since 1995, tucked away in what used to be a police station, and it's got that perfect mix of classic charm and a bit of innovation that keeps things interesting. I love how they've nailed the atmosphere; it's elegant without being stuffy, with plenty of light and space that makes you feel comfortable right away, and the food is just brilliant – think hearty steaks, vegan options like that cauliflower steak everyone's raving about, and drinks that pair beautifully with it all. The team there are spot on too, always on hand with a smile and quick service, even when it's buzzing. On the flip side, it does get packed, especially with those tempting deals, so you might end up waiting if you haven't reserved, and the moderate prices can add up if you're not careful. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out; you'd enjoy it if you're after good company, decent grub, and that homely feel, but maybe plan ahead to avoid any hassles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming – it's a former police station turned into this cosy, welcoming spot that feels like a proper Chorlton institution.
  • The staff are friendly and really attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, especially the wines, and the food is spot on with seasonal classics and global twists that hit the spot.
  • It's dog-friendly and has outdoor seating, perfect for a relaxed pint or meal on a nice day.
  • With deals like the January 50% off, it's great value, and the overall vibe is warm and not too noisy, ideal for a catch-up with mates.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy, especially during peak times, so you might struggle to snag a table without booking ahead.
  • Prices are on the moderate side, which means it might feel a bit pricey if you're just popping in for a quick drink rather than a full meal.
  • From what I've seen, it's more geared towards a refined crowd, so if you're after something really lively or rowdy, it might not quite fit the bill.

Nice little bar area and outdoor seating if you’re just staying for drinks. The bar area inside is also dog friendly. Staff are friendly and attentive, and the drinks selection, especially the wine, is great.

Would highly recommend. Visited during the January deal 50% and will definitely be back to pay full price. Struggled to get a table as it was so popular, however, despite the popularity the service was excellent. I had the cauliflower steak which is vegan and it was very tasty and filling. Good choice of drinks too.

Today, I visited a restaurant with an atmosphere that felt refined, elegant, and luxurious. Despite being a high-end venue, they also offered a children’s menu, which I found thoughtful. For my meal, I ordered the Fat Iron steak and a chicken salad. Both dishes were excellent, with the steak cooked to perfection and the salad fresh and flavorful. The service was also impeccable. I had booked a table for 4:45 PM but encountered some traffic on the way, which made me worry that I might not be allowed in due to being late. I arrived just before 5 PM, but fortunately, the staff were understanding and warmly welcomed me in without any issue. Since I arrived early for dinner, the restaurant wasn’t too busy, which added to the relaxing experience. However, as I finished my meal and stepped outside, I noticed that a queue had already formed at the entrance. This shows how popular the place is, and I’d definitely recommend booking in advance. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience, and I’d love to return.

This was our first visit and we absolutely loved it. First of all what a beautiful building, apparently it was originally a police station, now it is a stunning restaurant. Loved that it felt quite old as you walked in but through the back it opens up and is really light and airy. The menu has something for everyone, not your run of the mill, though there are the staples there like burgers, but some more unusual dishes as well. I had the risotto which was cooked to perfection, one had the duck, another the steak and a burger, everyone enjoyed. We just had room to squeeze a dessert in as well. The place has a lovely feel to it, really nice atmosphere and an excellent background playlist. Service was excellent, we will be back.

Recommended by my friend in Manchester, I feel so surprised by such a decent, classic and well-decorated restaurant on the shopping street of the Chlorton area. It is very suitable for those customers who look for a comfortable, warm and not too noisy environment. The customer service and food quality are very good. I highly recommend a double espresso that is strong, intense and creamy. Please note that the food prices seem to be higher than the average in this busy city. Nevertheless, it is still a good choice to gourmet lovers
