About This Pub

Ah, Bowling Green Chorlton – it's one of those places that really warms you up from the moment you step in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are just gems; they're dedicated, with folks like Emma keeping things spotless and Eric adding those lovely touches with flowers that make the whole spot feel fresh and inviting. Whether you're popping in for a meal or staying over, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and that outdoor area is brilliant on a nice day – packed but still managing quick service, even when it's heaving. The food's a winner too, like those goats cheese burgers that get rave reviews, and it's spot-on for events, as one couple found for their wedding, with nothing too much trouble for the team. But hey, it's not all perfect; the breakfast is a tad underwhelming, more of a grab-and-go setup with basics like cereal and fruit, without the hearty options you'd hope for after a night out. Plus, sorting out when they're actually open can be a faff since the hours aren't clearly listed, and their website had a glitch when I checked, which might leave you scratching your head. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating from loads of happy visitors, it's got that genuine charm that makes it worth a try – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, attentive, and go the extra mile, like Emma with her warm smile and spotless upkeep, or Archie making sure everything's just right.
  • It's a lovely spot for a bite or a stay, with comfortable rooms, a great outdoor area that's perfect for sunny days, and efficient service even when it's buzzing.
  • The food hits the spot, from tasty burgers to other grill options, and it's ideal for special occasions like weddings, making it feel welcoming and intimate.
  • Overall, it's got a charming vibe in the trendy Chorlton area, with high praise for cleanliness and a homely atmosphere that makes you want to linger.
Cons
  • Breakfast options are a bit basic – think cereals, fruit, and the odd croissant, but nothing fancy like a full fry-up, which might leave you wanting more.
  • There's no clear info on operating hours, which could be a pain if you're trying to plan a visit and end up turning up when it's not open.
  • While it's got a strong online presence, the website seems to have some issues, so it might not be the easiest place to get all the details you need upfront.

Emma and Eric really look after this beautiful Hotel very well. Emma has great guest rapport and a beautiful smile whilst dedicated to her duties making everywhere spotless. Eric looks after the whole building and I must say the beautiful flowers and plants really make a huge difference. A most enjoyable stay. We will be back! We might even move in permanently.

A very special commendation for Archie who went beyond the call of duty and the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect in every way. A wonderful pub hotel which we actually found much better than some certain leading hotel brands. 5 star Thank you.

Lovely little pub/hotel in the very trendy suburb of Chorlton. Rooms were very comfortable and clean and the staff cannot be faulted. There was no breakfast as such but a selection of cereal, fruit, pot noodles(?!), porridge pots, croissants and biscuits were available along with milk and oat milk. Prices reasonable. The cereal bowls were very pretty. Downsides: only 1 chair in the room and towels too small.

We wanted our wedding to be local, Chorlton based and intimate. And the Bowling Green couldn’t have been a more perfect venue for our wedding reception! From start to finish, the experience was absolutely wonderful. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they made sure that everything ran smoothly on the day. The home-cooked food was absolutely delicious and plentiful! A special thank you to Mark, the landlord and Liam, the bar manager who truly went above and beyond. They made the whole process of organising our wedding stress-free and enjoyable. Several of our wedding guests also stayed in the rooms above the pub, and they couldn’t stop raving about how lovely and comfortable they were. We wouls highly recommend The Bowling Green for any occasion – they really made our wedding reception personalised, fun and unforgettable! We love that we will walk past our wedding venue every day. Thank you very much for everything! Hayley and Abe

A little bit of sunshine and this place was packed! Managed to find a table at the back, has a large outdoor area with an outside bar, and decided to try some food. Despite how busy it was, ordering food and drink was fast and efficient. I had the goats cheese burger and my fella went for the Cajun chicken. I must say his sweet potato fries were the best I have ever eaten, really crispy, they put my potato fries to shame. My burger came with a whopping thick slice of goats cheese on top! I had to move it off to the side and eat it as a separate side 😆 the food was surprisingly good!
