About This Pub

Oh, The Layton Rakes is one of those reliable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a straightforward good time in Blackpool. I have to say, the staff really stand out – they're so welcoming and efficient, making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds a nice touch to your visit. The food is generally spot on, with quick service that lets you enjoy your meal without waiting ages, and it's brilliant for a relaxed afternoon or evening. That roof area is a gem on a sunny day, full of laughter and a cheerful atmosphere that just lifts your spirits. On the flip side, though, it can get a bit noisy with the crowds, which might make it tricky for a quiet catch-up with mates. And let's be honest, the food isn't always perfect; I've heard a few tales of dishes that weren't quite up to scratch, like chips that had lost their warmth or pizzas that seemed rushed. Plus, the prices feel a smidge higher than at other Spoons, so it might not be the bargain you're hoping for every time. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a go if you're in the area, but keep expectations realistic for a balanced pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile and quick service that makes you feel right at home.
  • The food hits the spot more often than not, with plenty of options that are spot on for a casual meal, especially if you're after something hearty and affordable.
  • It's in a brilliant location on Market Street, easy to pop into after a wander or while waiting for a bus, and the atmosphere can be lively and enjoyable, particularly up on the roof on a sunny day.
  • As a classic Wetherspoon, it's great value for money, perfect for a relaxed pint or a bite without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The background noise can get a bit overwhelming at times, especially with groups of lively youngsters around, which might disrupt a peaceful chat.
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes might come out looking rushed or not quite hot enough, like lukewarm chips that leave you wanting more.
  • Prices seem a tad higher than you'd expect from other Wetherspoon spots, which could put a damper on the budget-friendly vibe.
  • There are occasional disappointments with certain items, such as pizzas that feel like they've been hurried, making the overall experience less consistent.

The food was spot on. Background noise was a bit irritating with the droves of teched-up kids but not the place's fault.

Was quite disappointed with my pizza, it looked like it was rushed. It tasted ok. Our bowl of chips to share were Luke warm at best and tasted like they had been left out for a while. Prices seemed much higher than other spoons as well
