About This Pub

Ah, the Counting House in Blackpool – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? Tucked away in the town centre with those stunning sea views, it's got this charming historic feel from its days as a bank back in 1863, and it's dead welcoming for families and even your furry mates. I've heard loads of great stories about the food; those daily deals are spot on for keeping things affordable, and folks rave about the quality, like that £5 burger that's a steal compared to the fast food joints. The staff really shine too – they're chatty, helpful, and go above and beyond, whether it's keeping the kitchen open or just having a laugh at the bar. Plus, with live sports on the telly, it's a top spot for game days. But, let's be honest, it's not all pints and cheers; there have been a few grumbles about overcharging on drinks or the menu not being as varied as it used to be, with some saying portions are a bit skimpy. And if you're popping in during busy spells, you might face a wait for your meal, which can put a dampener on things. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out – just go in with realistic expectations, and you're in for a treat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food deals are an absolute bargain – like that £5 hamburger, which is cheaper than grabbing something from the high street chains, making it a wallet-friendly spot for a bite.
  • The staff are genuinely lovely and go the extra mile; stories of them keeping the kitchen open late or being chatty and friendly really warm you up.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere with a historic vibe, right in the heart of Blackpool, offering cracking sea views and a welcoming spot for families and dogs alike.
  • They show live sports, which is brilliant for catching the big games, and the pub's got nice touches like a beer garden and WiFi to make your visit more enjoyable.
Cons
  • There can be pricing slip-ups, like getting charged a bit extra for drinks, which might leave you scratching your head over the till.
  • The menu's shrunk a tad, with fewer options for lighter meals and some complaints about smaller portions, so it might not hit the spot if you're after variety.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, especially when it's busy, though the staff do let you know upfront, which is fair but still a bit of a drag.
  • It gets heaving at peak times, leading to mixed experiences, so you might find it a challenge to relax if it's packed out.

Visited 11/06/25 for a bit of tea. Good quality food, had to wait a little whilst for food but was told by bar there was a wait. Which is fine, hamburger deal £5, cheaper than mcdonalds.

We had a voucher for greene king. Got a taxi there to find out that food finished at 8. The staff went above and beyond. They kept the kitchen open and let us dine. We were ever so grateful. The staff were lovely. Was a Lovely atmosphere in the pub too. Defo going back :)

We have just visited The Counting House (Good Friday 2025) It is obviously quite busy. For a bottle of Newcastle Brown £5.25 A pint of strongbow £4.95 Instead of being charged £10.20 We were charged £10.55 (To be fair, that's if the prices are correct as we checked online later) My partner then asked if he could use his Defence Discount Card to be told he needed to go to the Greene King website and download a code, impossible to do when he had already ordered 2 drinks and it was busy. To which the gentleman behind the bar said *it's just not worth it for us* .. Here's to our Armed Forces, never to busy to help 🍺

I usually come here for food when I'm up but I came in yesterday and was very disappointed at the portion of food and the menu. Last time I came there was more choice on the menu. The pannis have been taken off and there's really not that much choice anymore, if you wanted something light to eat you couldn't as its not on the menu anymore. I was looking forward to the chicken club sandwich but had to have the hunters chicken which the portion was shocking it was more like a child's portion. The chicken breast was tiny. I had to go and get something else to ear after i had left.

Been in 3 days consecutively now, great meal each time. Love the ambiance in here. Dan the kitchen manager cooks a great meal. Connor behind the bar was very chatty and friendly. General manager is a great guy to chat to. Will be coming in each week from now on.
