About This Pub
Ah, The Lamplighters – it's one of those local spots in Castleford that you might stumble upon for a pint and end up sticking around for the atmosphere. From what I've gathered from the chats online, it's got that warm, welcoming feel with staff who go out of their way to make you comfortable, and the beers are spot on without breaking the bank. It's brilliant for catching the footie with loads of screens around, and being open all week from around 11am makes it dead handy for a casual meet-up. On the flip side, though, there are a couple of things that could do with a tweak – like the landlord coming across as a bit sharp on occasion, which has left some folks feeling uneasy. Then there's the state of the ladies' facilities; a few have mentioned a musty smell and unreliable taps, which isn't the best for a quick freshen-up. All in all, it's a decent choice if you're after good value and a lively crowd, but I'd say keep an eye out for those niggles to avoid any surprises. If you're in the area, it's worth giving it a go for that classic pub experience, just with a balanced view in mind.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
You've got cracking pints at decent prices, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out.
-
It's well-run with plenty of sports on the telly – think multiple screens showing the matches, perfect for footie fans.
-
The pub's open seven days a week with flexible hours, so it's easy to pop in for a quick one whenever suits.
Cons
-
There have been a few mentions of the landlord being a bit aggressive at times, which can put a damper on things.
-
The ladies' loos need some attention – reports of a damp smell, poor water pressure, and sometimes no soap, which isn't ideal.
-
One or two folks have griped about specific things like the live music getting cut off or showing Leeds Utd matches, which might not suit everyone.
-
It's a shame about the limited food options; warm pork pies and sausage rolls are on offer, but they don't sound all that appealing from what I've heard.

Decent boozer, but landlord very aggressive! Weird
Staff lovely, (Sunday lunch we go in) decent prices.
Didn’t have food so can’t comment but made to feel very welcome by Jonno the landlord, well run, good beer and great prices.
Probably use this pub maybe once or twice a week cracking pint staff always polite, plenty of sports on about 8 tv,s as of late started selling warm pork pies and sausage rolls etc, my only gripe show leeds utd matches 🤣 apart from that great pub
Really love it in here, my only feedback would be, please see if you can do something about the girls loos, it always smells of damp (not sure if that’s an external wall or guttering issue) and the water pressure for the tap is poor and there’s usually no soap. Also the live music on Sunday is often just out of place, twice I’ve been there and it’s almost like it empties the place or kills the vibe, that might just be me and it wont stop me coming back just yet but it’s not what I come for!
