About This Pub

Ah, Liquid Spirit in Castleford – it's one of those places that really comes alive with its mix of live music, karaoke, and a supportive vibe for the armed forces, which I think is rather touching. The refurb has given it a fresh feel, and the drinks are sensibly priced, so you won't feel short-changed when you're settling up. It's brilliant for a group outing where you're up for dancing or catching a game on Sky Sports, and the security team's on point if things get a bit rowdy. That said, it's not all roses; the music can be so loud that you'd struggle to hear yourself think, let alone have a decent chinwag, and there have been a few scuffles that, while quickly managed, leave you wondering about the overall vibe. Still, if you're after an affordable night with some energy, it's worth a go – just keep your expectations in check for a more relaxed affair.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is lively and friendly, making it a great spot for enjoying good tunes and a bit of karaoke or live acts.
  • They've got a strong community feel, especially with their support for the armed forces, including a war memorial outside.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, which is always a plus for a night out without breaking the bank.
  • Security handles any issues quickly, so you can feel relatively safe even if things get a bit heated.
  • There's a variety of activities like pool, Sky Sports, and events that cater to different tastes.
Cons
  • It can get incredibly loud, which makes it tough for a proper chat or a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • There have been occasional fights or disturbances, which might put some folks off, even if they're sorted out fast.
  • Entry policies seem a bit inconsistent, with reports of people being turned away for no clear reason.
  • It doesn't always feel buzzing; some evenings can be quieter than expected, which might disappoint if you're after a lively crowd.
  • The operating hours look a tad confusing, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.

Typical modern bar playing some good tunes but very LOUD !!! Not a place to go for a chat. OK if that's your scene into the early hours.

Now renamed Castleford Ex Services Club, trying hard to re-vitalize itself and is still supportive of our past and present armed forces. War memorial situated outside. Lively and friendly, with Saturday/Sunday disco/karaoke, pool table, sky sports and other activities. Right next to train and close to bus stations, so perfect for a drink before or after your journey.

Visited Several times, since the refurb the new owners have made a big difference and created a new space too be enjoyed in the town, live acts at the weekend posted well in advance on social platforms and there's quiet a wide variety so all tastes catered for. Drinks are reasonably priced for the area, wouldn't hesitate too return. 😁
