About This Pub

Ah, Castleford Sports & Social Club – it's one of those places that really captures that classic community vibe, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels included, which is such a nice touch for a casual night out. The prices are dead reasonable too, so you can enjoy a few drinks or a game without worrying about the cost, and there's loads going on like pool, karaoke with a great mix of tunes from the 50s right up to now, or even catching the latest sports action on the big screen. It's spot on for a laugh with your mates, especially if you're into that social, upbeat atmosphere. On the downside, though, there have been a few mentions of things getting a bit heated with fights on occasion, which might put you off if you're after something more chilled and peaceful. Plus, it does seem like it's more tailored to those who fancy a bevvy, so if you're not in the mood for that, it might not hit the spot. All in all, it's a solid choice for an inexpensive, entertaining evening, but I'd say go in with your eyes open and maybe pop by during the day for a quieter visit first – that way, you can decide if it's your cup of tea.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Prices are spot on – it's a budget-friendly spot for a pint or a game of pool without breaking the bank.
  • There's plenty of fun on offer, like cracking karaoke nights and watching sports on the big screen, which makes for a great night out with mates.
  • The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for catching up with friends over a variety of music and activities.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of scuffles or fights, which could make things feel a bit unpredictable or less relaxed.
  • It might not suit everyone, as some reviews suggest it's more appealing if you're up for a drink, and could feel off-putting if you're looking for a sober outing.
  • With no website or online presence, it's a bit tricky to get the latest info or updates before heading over.
  • The reviews are a tad outdated, with the most recent ones from a while back, so you might want to check if things have changed since then.

3 visits seen 3 fights. Cheap beer and frivolous fun, but like a 2am pie n peas, not something that would appeal to a sober person

Love the karaoke on a Monday with Andy. Always a good night with friends. Also plenty of singers and a variety of music from 50's up to present day.

Two sided popular former town centre Liberal club. During days a busy sports bar with snooker table. Usually frequented with racing fans due to big screen and close proximity to local bookies. Weekend nights, larger side opens up as disco type bar with later opening times. Still known locally as the Liberal.
