About This Pub

Ah, The Lamb & Flag – it's one of those Covent Garden gems that really hits the spot for a proper pub experience. I've got to say, the food is where it shines brightest; think hearty Sunday roasts and those mouthwatering pies that leave you wanting more, all made with fresh, seasonal bits that feel just right. The vibe is spot on too, with a cosy interior full of character and a courtyard that's perfect for a sunny pint with friends. The team behind the bar are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of meals that didn't quite live up to the hype, like dry meat or underwhelming veg that could do with a bit more flair. And while it's worth the coin, the prices might make you think twice if you're on a budget. Overall, it's a top pick for a night out, especially if you plan ahead to snag a table; you'd be mad to miss it, but keep expectations realistic for that balanced pub adventure.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with standout dishes like the beef and ale pie and scotch egg that are just phenomenal – fresh, seasonal ingredients make all the difference.
  • The atmosphere is fabulous, whether you're soaking up the history inside or enjoying a pint in the courtyard; it's got that perfect blend of traditional charm and lively buzz.
  • Service is top-notch, with friendly staff who go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, as if you're chatting with old mates.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from classic cask ales to modern craft beers, so there's something for everyone to raise a glass to.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss, like soggy chips or chewy meat in the Sunday roast, which might leave you a bit disappointed if you're after perfection.
  • Prices are on the steeper side, so it might feel a tad pricey for what you get, especially if you're just popping in for a quick bite.
  • It gets rammed quickly, and without a booking, you could end up turned away, which is a real shame on a busy night.

I wasn’t happy that my chips were covered in gravy and soggy. Food was otherwise decent and a lovely place. MAKE A RESERVATION! I saw like 25 people turned away for not having a reservation. It was because they were fully booked.

The Lamb and Flag Sunday roast didn’t quite meet expectations. The meat (beef and chicken) was chewy and dry, with the beef pieces containing about 25% unpleasant fat, which made it unappetizing. The side vegetables were the traditional ones, but the preparation was basic and lacked any flair—nothing interesting or outstanding about the whole meal. On a positive note, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely. The space had a unique charm, being historically significant, which added to the overall experience.

A bit pricy but well worth it. Hard to find such good food in London. Try the beef and ale pie, phenomenal. Their scotch egg is also insanely good with the sauce

We tried an amazing Sunday roast here, it was sooo delicious. The cauliflower and the brownie were really good too, maybe the brownie could be a bit cheaper. Book a table in advance otherwise you won’t be able to eat here. The service was awesome 🙂. 100% recommended!

Fabulous atmosphere inside and out. Many were enjoying their pints out in the courtyard. We booked to come back for dinner after our show and we’re not disappointed. Though the scotch egg was a little smaller than I would anticipate the flavour was top notch.
