About This Pub
Ah, The Kings Head – it's one of those classic pubs that feels like a proper local gem in the heart of Warrington, tucked into a historic building that's just a stone's throw from the train station and the rugby ground. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff really make the place; they're warm and attentive, always up for helping out with events or making sure you've got a good spot, which adds that homely touch you don't always find elsewhere. The rooms are no-frills but do the job nicely, especially with that included breakfast to set you up for the day, and it's brilliant for groups or anyone popping in for a function with its spacious outdoor area and multiple bars. On the flip side, though, a few mates have mentioned the odd pint not tasting quite right, which could put a dampener on things, and it does get heaving during big events, so it might not be the best for a peaceful evening. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after good value and a friendly buzz, but keep an eye out for those little inconsistencies to make sure your visit hits the high notes.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant and go out of their way to make your visit special, like sorting a DJ for a birthday bash or safely storing your bike if you're passing through.
-
It's in a fantastic spot, right near the train station and the rugby stadium, making it super convenient for a pint after a match or a quick stop on your travels.
-
The rooms are straightforward but comfy, with en suite bathrooms, telly, and tea-making bits, plus a hearty breakfast thrown in for free – what a treat!
-
They've got a great vibe for events, with a large outdoor area, multiple bars, and even space for functions, plus plenty of beer choices at fair prices.
Cons
-
Some folks have had dodgy experiences with the drinks, like flat or off beers that left them feeling under the weather, which is a shame for a pub.
-
It can get really busy on match days or for events, which might make it a bit chaotic if you're after a quiet night.
-
A couple of reviews mentioned things feeling a tad basic, so if you're expecting something fancy, it might not quite hit the mark.

Celebrated my wife's 30th birthday here on Easter Saturday in the garden bar. Paul and all the staff made it a brilliant night for everybody, nothing was too much trouble, even supplied a DJ for the night. The buffet food was excellent, and plenty of beers to choose from at good prices. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to book for a birthday party! Thanks again to everyone at the kings head.
Great location, deceptively large pub and hotel. Open courtyard at the back, 3 bar areas, probably caters for functions.
Always book here to go to the rugby. So convenient for town centre, Central Station and the HJ Stadium. About 10 minutes walk from Bank Quay Station. Always a nice welcome, rooms basic but do the job. The best though is the superb breakfast. Hosts very friendly. Gets busy on match days but that creates an atmosphere. Music goes on until 12pm on match nights but by then I'm well away with the fairies so I don't tend to notice it.
Called in for a pint and will never go again. The larger was disgusting. Flat and tasteless. My misses tried a different larger for her second drink and it was worse. Both off us felt off for the rest of the day. For the price of a pint these days the least they can do is make sure it’s top quality but not in here. We won’t be back.
For the price and location I was impressed with The Kings Head. I was touring on a bike and they were more than accommodating to safely store my bike for the night. Nearby to takeout shops and pubs, and the place alone was great. I didn't realise the breakfast was included the next morning and I was fed like a king. Definitely recommend to stay here or at least stop in for a beer or 3!
