About This Pub
Ah, Dirty Bones Oxford – it's one of those places that really knows how to set a cheerful tone for a night out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are an absolute delight; they're engaging, know their menu inside out, and go the extra mile to make sure you're having a good time, much like that waiter who turned a long day around with a bit of kindness. The food side of things is mostly a winner – think mouthwatering burgers, stellar milkshakes, and desserts that could make anyone's day brighter – all served in a hip, modern space that's clean and full of good energy. It's ideal for grabbing a drink with friends or diving into some American classics. But, let's keep it real, it's not all perfect; some folks have mentioned the portions feeling a bit skimpy, and a few dishes like certain burgers or sides didn't quite hit the spot, coming across as dry or overly tangy. Still, with an overall rating pushing 4.6, it's clear this spot does a lot right, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in Oxford for a relaxed vibe, just maybe plan for an extra snack if you're extra hungry.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The service is absolutely spot-on – friendly, knowledgeable staff who make you feel right at home, like they're genuinely looking out for you.
-
The food hits the mark in so many ways, with delicious options like juicy burgers, creamy milkshakes, and that oreo cheesecake that's just heavenly.
-
It's a lively, modern spot with great vibes, perfect for catching up with mates over drinks and a bite in a clean and welcoming environment.
-
They've got a solid selection of cocktails and beers, including things like Brooklyn on tap, which adds a fun twist to the experience.
Cons
-
Portions can be a bit on the small side, so you might find yourself still peckish after the mains, especially with the fries or burgers.
-
Some dishes fall short, like the burgers that can be dry or those pre-formed patties that don't quite live up to the hype.
-
Certain items, such as the mac and cheese balls with overly strong mustard, might not suit everyone's taste and could disappoint.
-
It's moderately priced, but if you're after a hearty meal, you might feel it's not the best value for what you get.

I really wanted to like this place. The promise of a London burger. In Oxford. A huge, modern space. Hip, friendly and knowledgeable servers. Brooklyn beer on tap. They run a £12 lunch single burger and skinny fries but I went for the £14 classic double. Oh dear. The pre-formed thin beef patties are of excellent quality & flavour; moist steak burgers but not juicy. Very ordinary pickles, OK bun, so the whole thing was on the dry side and small for a double. A burger joint with “Dirty” in the name, I expected a burger with which to get intimately messy. Denied. Standard skinny fries, greasy/oily & again ordinary Frickles, the accompanying scotch bonnet jam tasted more like BBQ sauce. Wanted to give four stars for the flavour of the beef, but really disappointed as the execution didn’t match the promise.
We had the buttermilk chicken burger. The portion was a bit small for me but overall it was delicious. The portion of fries was small but tasted good. There is also a bar section and dessert options. The restaurant and toilets were very clean
Tried the Frickles and they were pretty good nice and tangy! The mac & cheese balls weren’t really for me, and the mustard inside was a bit too strong. I had the So Fly burger too, but it was a little dry. On the plus side, the milkshake was solid, and my favorite part of the meal was definitely the donut dessert so so good!
My waiter asked me, genuinely, if I was alright. I told him I've had a really long day, and his reply was so precious: "It's okay, you're here now. We will take good care of you." ❤️ And they sure did! Great drinks, steak was perfect, and the oreo cheesecake almost made me cry it was so good. Thanks for having me!
10/10 amazing service, would come back again just to be severed by tobi! What a brilliant guy, he was engaging, knew the menu and drinks well and provided stimulating conversation adding a bonus to our night out! we forgot to order sides, he was so lovely and polite about it and got us another menu and made sure it all comes out together .
all in all a fantastic experience 😀 the food was great we loved the atmosphere, but this review is for tobi, keep doing what your doing man we had a great time 😁
