About This Pub

Ah, The Jolly Carter – it's one of those pubs that you want to love wholeheartedly, tucked away on Church Street in Little Lever. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the Sunday roasts are a real highlight; they're packed with flavour and offer solid value, making it a go-to for a hearty meal with friends. The staff deserve a shout-out too – they're ace at juggling a full bar and getting your food out promptly, which adds to that warm, community feel. Plus, pop in on a Friday and you'll catch a lively atmosphere with drinks that won't break the bank. But honestly, it's not all smooth sailing; the prices have crept up to what feels like fancy restaurant levels for basic pub fare, and the menu's shrunk a bit, so choices are limited. Then there's the food itself – some reviews mention it's gone downhill, with things like burnt paninis turning what should be a simple lunch into a frustrating experience. Overall, I'd say it's a decent spot for a casual get-together if you're nearby, but keep an eye on those prices and maybe stick to the drinks or the roasts to avoid any letdowns. It's got that classic pub charm, but like any place, it's got its ups and downs.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roast is absolutely top-notch and offers great value for money, making it a real winner for a traditional meal out.
  • The staff are brilliant, especially when they're handling a busy bar and still getting food out quickly – it's impressive to see.
  • It has a lively atmosphere, particularly on Friday evenings, and the drinks are reasonably priced, which keeps things enjoyable.
  • There's a good variety of food options that seem to please most folks, with plenty of choices across the menu.
Cons
  • Prices have shot up and feel more like a high-end restaurant than a cosy pub, which can be a real shock for simple dishes like sausages and mash.
  • The menu's become quite minimal, so you might not find as many options as you'd hope for a standard pub grub experience.
  • Food quality has taken a dip in some cases, with reports of burnt items like paninis that just aren't up to scratch, leaving you disappointed and still peckish.
  • It seems the place has gone downhill overall, based on recent visits, so it might not live up to its reputation every time.

Absolutely shocked at how this place has gone. Thought I would pop in for some afternoon lunch just standard pub grub to find the menu was Absolutely minimal and not only that the prices were shocking! I'm talking like high end resteraunt prices and that was just for some sausages and mash that came with the nost watery gravy with half a plate of peas swimming in it. We was the only ones there eating and the food took over half an hour to come as well. £40 for two meals and two drinks! Will not be going back again.

Booked a table for 15 with pre ordered food from the menu . Young lady behind the bar was brilliant. You could see she was on her own but she got all the food out really quickly and still served behind the bar . The food was really good with a wide selection across the group everyone enjoyed there meals . Thanks Paul little lever

The food has gone very down hill. I came in for dinner with 4 friends yesterday I left angry and still hungry. I ordered a tuna mayo panini one of the simplest items on the menu and it came out burnt (it’s was charcoal black).. I am shocked they even thought it was acceptable to serve this and then also forgot to bring the fries out until asked. I was disappointed as I recommended the Jolly never again, over charged for poor quality food.
