About This Pub
Ah, The Black Horse – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that has a bit of everything going for it, but isn't without its quirks. From what folks are saying, the staff are absolute gems, always polite and making sure you're looked after, which really sets a welcoming tone. The drinks are reasonably priced too, and paired with some solid food options and great beer, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together or even a family outing, especially with the kids welcome policy. Plus, if you're into sports, the TVs and that nice beer garden out back make it a winner for match days or sunny afternoons. On the other hand, it's not all rosy – a few have mentioned the place feeling a tad lifeless, almost 'deader than a big bag of dead things' on quieter visits, and it can get uncomfortably cold inside, which might put a dampener on things. Then there's the food, which seems hit or miss; one story about a breakfast buffet being sparse and dried out is a bit of a downer. And while it's got that classic pub feel, being the priciest spot in Farnworth might make you weigh up your options. All in all, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're nearby, but maybe aim for a busier time to catch it at its best – it's got potential, but like any local haunt, it has its off days.

-
It's welcoming to families, with kids allowed, so it's a versatile spot for all sorts.

Cons
-
The atmosphere can feel a bit dead at times, like it's not buzzing with energy when you'd hope.
-
It might get quite cold inside, which isn't ideal for settling in with a pint on a chilly evening.

It's apparently the most expensive pub in the area, which could make you think twice before heading there regularly.

Deader than a big bag of dead things
We called in here for a few drinks one weekday afternoon. Recently opened it was clean & friendly. Bar staff was polite & the drinks were relatively cheap
Used to come here in the summer of 2020 and it was lovely. Good atmosphere good beer etc...
We visited today for a breakfast and what an absolute shambles.
That cold even the staff has jackets on!
We paid for the breakfast buffet to find there was literally 2 dried out eggs. A handful of mushrooms in water. And one hash brown.
We asked if and when there will be more brought out and they said yes. We waited patiently for 10 minutes. They brought out sausages. Then 5 minutes after that 4 slices of bacon came out. Which went to the people who had already got their food. So again we were left with nothing.
Rude staff so we got our money back and went elsewhere. Where we ordered and had out food within 5 minutes. Standards!!!
