About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Island Inn – it's one of those places that just warms you up as soon as you step inside. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute gems, always greeting you with a smile and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that homely feel. The food is where it shines brightest; folks rave about the mixed grill and chilli chips, saying they're packed with flavour and presented beautifully, and it's all at an inexpensive price, so you won't break the bank. Plus, with on-site parking and being wheelchair friendly, it's super accessible, which is something you don't always find. The atmosphere is just right too – no blaring music or screens blasting sports everywhere, so it's ideal for catching up with mates or enjoying a meal without any fuss. On the flip side, it does have its moments, like when it's packed and tables linger uncleared, which might leave you hanging a bit longer than you'd hope. And while it's got a stellar 4.4 rating from heaps of positive feedback, the lack of a website means you might have to wing it a little when planning your trip. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a visit if you're in West Bromwich, especially for a relaxed meal or to try those curries everyone's buzzing about – I'd say go for it and see for yourself!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with standout dishes like the mixed grill and chilli chips that really hit the spot.
  • It's kept spotlessly clean and has a stylish, updated interior that makes for a comfortable and inviting space.
  • There's on-site parking and it's fully wheelchair friendly with ramps, which is a real bonus for getting in without any hassle.
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, perfect for a good chat without any obnoxiously loud music or distractions – it's just people enjoying themselves.
Cons
  • During busy evenings, some tables aren't cleared as quickly as you'd like, which can make things feel a bit chaotic if you're waiting for a spot.
  • It might not have the most extensive online presence, like no website listed, so it's trickier to check menus or book ahead if you're planning a visit.

Enjoyed the mixed grill from here. The service is really good and really friendly. The chilli chips went down well. 😍 They also have parking on site which is an added bonus(accessed from the back streets). Wheelchair friendly as there is a ramp. Would return to try the curries one day soon 😃

Lovely place full of people enjoying themselves. Unpretentious and suitable for all. No obnoxiously loud music or sports on the TV. There was plenty of atmosphere from the people around. The only thing I would say is that during the very busy night - some of the empty tables are not cleared as quickly as needed for other large groups needing seating. All in all a nice location. Friendly, helpful staff and a nice community of both regular patrons and customers.

I used to frequent this pub very regularly many years ago. As part of my recent tour of Desi mixed grills, I thought I'd pop in to reminisce and eat. Firstly I was surprised to see how nice it looks inside compared to back in the day. Very clean and stylish now. The lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly, the beer selection was ok, with Madri and Staropramen as the most premium ones there. I have to say I was surprised when I tasted the food because it was exactly the same as it used to be. The mixed grill is nicely balanced and not overloaded with cheap wings, there were 4 lamb chops on it. It didn't look promising when it came out with very minimal smoking and sizzling, but everything on it was decent. The only two slight let downs were that the naans were burnt and too firm, and we got given plain chips instead of masala chips. That said, the chips were the absolute perfect texture you can get. We weren't going to bother bringing up the mistake, but the lady at the bar engaged us in chip-related conversation! so we just told her about the chips only, and she immediately went looking to rectify it, eventually refunding us the difference for those. 10-14 years ago, this was up there as one of the best places for a mixi, and I think now it's been forgotten about a little bit with these new ones popping up, but I have to say it's still worth visiting.
